I sure could use some advice from you car gods out there!!

My engine malfunction light as well as the oil pressure light just turned on today while I was driving. I changed the oil & filter. The oilr pressure light turned off. But the engine malfunction light is still on. I just spent a whole bunch of money getting a lot of work done on my truck and now this happens, I sure could use some advice on what I need to do to get this fixed. Do you folks know of any common issues of why this light would come on and stay on or am I just fudged....

    Thank you!

You’ll need to know what codes are stored in the system.
Since the oil pressure light is now off. I will assume you were low on oil?
And that the Engine Light will needed to be cleared.
That is if, your only issue was low oil?

Again, take it to a local parts store. (Autozone, AdvancedAuto, etc)
They usually will scan the codes for free. (Codes are what turn the Engine Light on)

UH, what exactly did you do when the oil pressure light came on? Keep driving? pull over and have it towed? Driving with the oil light on will destroy the engine.

Also, replacing old oil with new oil is not a cure for a light coming on. I don't care if it's been 20K miles since your last oil change, the light should not come on.

Hey OP, listen to @Muddinfun he’s got good advice. He got me thru an issue where my brake light fuse went out and it wouldn’t make the truck shift at all.

It was flickering on and off, so I pulled into a gas station, added some oil and it turned off completely. The engine check was still on. I then changed the oil and filter.

Possible fix. I unplugged my batt for about 30 minutes while I checked all my fuses. Plugged the battery back in and when I started it back up - NO engine check light. I'm wondering if the OBD threw a code while the pressure light was flickering. I'm thinking the OBD reset and am good (god I hope so) I drove today, there was no oil temp issues, dripping of new oil and no dash lights...

You guys think I'm good orr....?

Y'all rock also! Thanks for the advice!!!

So, based on how much oil you added to get it to show on the dipstick, how much oil do you think was in it when the light was flickering? 2 quarts low is not going to make the light come on. 3 quarts low might make the light come on. Anything more than 3 quarts low would probably result in serious engine damage.

The next concern is how long since you previously checked the oil, and where did all the oil go?
