    Still thinking about it.

I didn't realize there was a difference. Government standards?

    Yes.

off the top of my head, the actual regulated stuff:

    -KMs/hr speedo
    -Dashboard warning light icons different
-Shape and spread of fog light pattern different with different bezels
    -Lower wattage fog lamp bulbs
-Different functionality of headlight stalk, headlight icons, and DRLs
-All pickup trucks must have towing package in Canada (trailer connections etc)
-No Entune (does not meet regulatory approvals. We get dummed-down Toyota nav)
-Certain provinces require block heater as standard
-French language warning badges and instruction badges

    Probably a few others I don’t remember.

the trim packages are also different for Canada, like heated seats in all TRDs, and for a while all Pros had to have the snorkel, but those items are not controlled by law.

Damn...I'm in Alaska. I sure didn't realize there was such a difference in the regulations.

Mostly minor stuff, but I imagine Toyota has to set up for a run, with the right dashboards and stickers on hand for the robots and installers to assemble. I kinda think they do a “Canada batch” from time to time. Also we did not have an trade agreement with Mexico for the importation of trucks, so all Canadian tacos are built in Texas. That may have to change with Tacoma production shifting to 100% Mexico next year.

Can you buy a truck without a block heater in Alaska?

As far as I know, yes you can but the dealers do the winterization. It's not a factory thing. I'm not 100 percent sure on that. My Tacoma was sold new in AK in 2015 with dealer installed block and pan heater.

Interesting. I imagine you’d be pooched without one.

I was up in your neck of the woods this summer on my way to Tuk. So beautiful. Dipped briefly into Alaska at Hyder. Love the North. Would like to get back up soon to check out more.

Yeah it's sure handy to have some heat for those cold starts. it costs a bit more in electricity bills. I'm glad you like the northland!

Yeah. When I went up there I did not feel I crossed something off my “bucket list”. I felt like a got a small peek through a doorway I want to walk right through. I am by no means done with the North. It’s where I wanna be. Cold and all. Unlikely to convince my wife however.

The way we live is what I call a "purpose driven life". I totally understand if your wife isn't into it. I'm lucky to have a wife that plays along lol.

It’s not mandated, mine doesnt have it. Still started at -30 ok. Clutch kinda stops working though, and some of the pulleys scream

On the coldest days my clutch is very sluggish and yeah the pulleys squeal for a few minutes. Unfortunately the block and pan heaters don't help with that at all! Cold starts sound brutal but eventually all is well.

I think i’d have to block the radiator and maybe do an underpan to try and keep the clutch warm enough. Wonder if its the fluid though?

It's fun to think about all that you COULD do. But the electrical cost adds up.

Pretty sure they got rid of the little square cubby on the left side of the steering column.

I'd gladly trade that nearly useless driver's side bed bin, for factory bed lights.
Yes, I know they're easy to install, and have it on my list, when the weather changes.
