Transmission "Clicks"

Every once in a while, when shifting from reverse to drive on a hill, I will notice the transmission makes a quick "clicking" type sound. I simply put the truck in neutral, make sure the brake is depressed firmly, then shift into drive with no problem.

I drive very conservatively, and don't think I shift the truck too abruptly when in a parking lot...which is where this mostly happens. Perhaps it is that the truck is slightly rolling, and it's simply a safety feature on the newer models...which I never noticed on my 01 Taco.

Anyone have any thoughts or insight into this one? Thanks.

i think its a new safety feature. my friend has to come to a complete stop when reversing to go into drive in his FIT.

 

Probably your brakes.

 

Yep....Thats what it was on mine. The front pads get about half way worn they start to click when you put it in reverse. Weird...but it was.

 

It sounds silly but are you sure you're completely stopped when you shift into drive?

 

That's the thing...not all the way...a super slow roll...but moving nonetheless.

It's probably the ABS system engaging into standby.

 

Even from a slow roll it can cause the trans to make a noise or a click. I'd try to be conscious to make sure you're at a complete stop before shifting into drive and see if it continues. Your truck is so new, I don't think it would have any issues. I've have had a couple customers come in complaining about a noise when shifting into drive (in a couple different kinds of vehicles) and that was the only thing we could conclude.

 

Its possible that your brakes are half way down. Put it in drive then shift to neutral and stop, the back up with out touching brakes....see if it clicks.

 

Having your brakes serviced may resolve the noise, sounds to me like brake pads moving in the holders.

 

Mine makes a similar noise after a cold start-up, right after I put it into drive and start going. I'm guessing that it has something to do with the ABS though. It doesn't really bother me, as long as something isn't about to break.

 

My front brakes make a similar click when I go front forward to reverse or vice versa .
