Great day at the beach surf fishing with my Taco. Driving was rough especially on the way back with high tide. But the Tacoma did not let me down

Well, we have finally come to the very weird time of year up in MN. The water is getting too cold to go out in the boat and be successful, but its not frozen yet. Guess I will just have to grab the shotgun for a couple months and go out to chase ditch chickens. Can't wait for everything to be solid enough to walk out on and start to punch some holes.

Good weekend of fishing! Started off at Grindstone Lake, NM and ended up at Lake Van. It was pretty slow, but still a good day.

We tried something different on Veterans Day and went to Alto Lake, NM. It was actually a very warm morning at 50 degrees. Then the wind picked up and in came the fog, plummeting the temps into the lows 20's. I wasn't dressed for it, my wife was. The fish were biting so we stayed at it with poles freezing up and all. We bailed after 11 rainbows on the stringer, I was cold soaked. Seemed like hours for me to shake it off. Funny thing was, I looked at my bibs that morning and said, nah. I think they'll get tossed in the truck regardless from here on out.

Garlic and Cheese Powerbait mixed and Salmon Eggs were star performers of the day.

My wife with some of our catch. Caught a few more after this.

I love those calm, foggy mornings. I had a morning on Mille Lacs one time that was so calm and perfectly overcast that we couldn't tell the boat was moving when we were doing over 30mph. It was also one of the best mornings of small mouth fishing I've ever had.

I may or may not have just invested in the Garmin Panoptix ice fishing bundle. I really have a love/hate relationship with my impulse spending habits.

3rd time out, 3 different local reservoirs and NOTHING. Very disheartening o_O

Wasn't able to take a boat out today due to high winds - quite a bit of chop, enough to produce white caps on the water. Pretty crazy actually. Not giving up...

Hey folks — here in coastal NC it’s trout season, and when work/family allow I leave the boat at home, throw my waders on, and fish at a local jetty. Super peaceful and relaxing. Last weekend a tropical storm rolled through and yet I still rolled out there (cabin fever). Got a decent smaller trout.

Also spent the past few days doing a major overhaul on a Daiwa BG 3000 I bought used. Was much worse off than I thought when I opened it up, had to soak much of the parts in rust remover, but she’s now de-rusted, cleaned, greased, oiled, and back together. Pretty nice reel for the money.

Any of you overhaul used reels? I find it’s pretty good therapy for a rough work week.

Great day of fishing at Fenton Lake (NM), finished up on the Jemez. Started off pretty cold and hit a blistering high of 40. We caught 12, but only kept 5. There was a lot of small guys.

The sick thing is I work with a guy who had a similar injury on his thumb. Point of the hook came out his nail. Nasty.

I've hooked myself a few times but for some reason it's worse when another angler does it to me.
