Not sure if that was in response to my post, but lossless audio does not use a compression algorithm. It is uncompressed streaming audio.. Tidal

Well, I will start by pleading ignorance - I don't know anything about Amazon Lossless or Tidal, I guess because I've never needed them. I can't imagine how any other format could be any more 'lossless' than the actual WAV file taken from the digital source (the CD), but I'm fine with whatever solution anyone else chooses to utilize. My Post was aimed in particular at those who may wish to play their CD's in their new 2020 Trucks; and I was simply providing them with my solution to this minor dilemma.

I have a nice collection of several hundred CD's that I have been listening to for many years now, both at home and in my previous vehicles (with CD Players), so that is what I am used to doing, and what I would prefer to continue doing. Consequently, that is the reason why I have chosen this particular solution to my dilemma.
And, being retired, time spent in this pursuit is not really an issue for me. Time may be an issue for others, and that is for them to decide; but once the 'Ripping' is complete, the task will never again need to be repeated for any particular CD, and that music will always be conveniently ready and available for one's listening pleasure.
However one chooses to accomplish their desires, it's all good by me.

Exactly, streaming is now king for lossless digital music. The notion that CDs represent the gold standard is long gone. Short of listening to vinyl on a $30,000 system the best sound quality that most of us have access to now comes through the internet ether.

They are not "less" lossless then CD, just they are lossless and are streaming services so you have access to their entire library of music with just your phone which can be BT to your head unit or Carplay/Android Auto. I am a Technophile so I gave up cd's like a decade ago... then again, like I said I am no audiophile.

The issue for me there is being on the go. Lossless audio will eat my data plan pretty quick, but I have 128gb of sd card in my phone.

Also, I like having a physical copy, but that's a whole other discussion.

The part that always cracks me up about older audiophiles is that their ears likely have gone to shit over the years, but they can hear the difference between a $500 speaker cable and a $50 one

I found it cheaper to just lose some hearing capability so now I couldn't tell you the difference. $5/mo for Spotify.

For what it’s worth, I’ve never not been able to format a usb drive to FAT32 in Win 10. Just tried it, right click on the drive and FAT32 is the default format option that comes up under Format...

Yup but with the BT part you'd be wasting your time streaming lossless and then playing it over BT. BT is going to recompress the audio back down to standard streaming quality and the method it uses to do it is extremely lossy which will make the sound even worse than a standard stream over a wired connection (outside of something like Apple with AAC files from Apple Music/iTunes which don't have to be recompressed but they are still starting out the same quality as you'd get with streaming Spotify).

Just one of the many reasons I do not like nor use BT. Use Carplay/Android Auto with like Tidal. However unless you are then also going to upgrade your head unit, speakers, and do some acoustic deadening in your vehicle... does it really matter all that much? Honest question but I really cannot tell the difference between MP3 and Lossless

I haven't compared it in the Tacoma specifically - but very unlikely I would be able to tell much of a difference or any. I can hear the difference with streaming Spotify at high and very high (Spotify high is actually super low bitrate). And there is a very noticeable difference bluetooth vs wired (even things like podcasts can sound worse over BT).

I have a nice audio setup in my home theater...it's a quiet environment and you can tell a big difference in depth and clarity with CDs/lossless. I've experimented with lossless streaming from Tidal and Deezer in past vehicles with better audio systems than the Tacoma and it was hard to impossible to pick out.
