Dont go all political on us and you have a pass on this... I'm personally curious because I'm about to make a sizable Roth move. Give me the facts and I wont spaz. Worst I'll do is delete it.

its just government history in general, it does not pertain to any particular party, they all make and pass tax laws
i have made people disgruntled in the past about my feelings towards the ROTH IRA vs Traditional IRA
    everybody's situation is different

there are pros and cons for both

Depends on age, risk tolerance, and if you have another job lined up(read Roth vs traditional IRA). For retirement funds I would use a mixture of VTI, BND, VNQ, VXUS. If you have 15+ yrs b4 you need the money, I would go 85/5/5/5 but I'm partial to US companies.

The only difference I'm aware of between a regular IRA and a Roth IRA are that a traditional is funded with pre-tax dollars and withdrawals are taxed whereas a Roth is funded with after-tax dollars, limited currently to 6000/yr., and withdrawals should be tax free.

When I put my tinfoil hat on, I'm concerned about the government deciding they need to redistribute our retirement funds at some point in the future (some have even stated that as their intention) but I don't know why a Roth would be in any greater or lesser jeopardy than a traditional IRA. :notsure:

There’s no way they’d try to redistribute people’s personal money. The second amendment would come into play there, people wouldn’t allow it.

both are subject to the 6k limitation.
It’s mainly pre tax and after tax contributions that make the differences

I would not put it past them
    Tax laws can change
At one time I heard that social security was promised to not be taxed ever
Yet here we are it is partially taxed for even the middle income on the lower side of the scale

I wouldn’t doubt they’d try it. It’s one thing changing rules with Social Security (which I think is still wrong, but not a huge deal). It would be another to try to redistribute people’s personal accounts. I don’t think they’d ever get away with that. I’d gladly join a militia to fight against that.

It goes much deeper than that.
Our social security numbers were never to be used for anything beyond the administration of the social security program. Anyone who thought otherwise was a Looney conspiracy theorist

    How did that turn out?

Give me a SS opt out option and up my retirement contribution limits to 100% of my pay regardless of the investment vehicle and I would be happy. And who knows the market may actually climb without needing stock buybacks indirectly backed by the fed and on actual share scarcity in the market instead.;)

You’re right, as long as the government stays in line there will be no need!

It's 100% inevitable. I have no idea of the timetable, and I sincerely hope it's not in mine or my children's lifetimes, but I have no doubt at all that it will happen.

That’s absolutely terrifying if it happens. That’s not what this country was founded on. I hope the generation that has to deal with it reacts accordingly.
