I’d say 15mpg or above is good in a flying brick. Just my opinion.

I’m lucky enough to live in a rural area so traffic back up is 3 cars at a stoplight I do drive a truck but local day cab, never much issue with traffic.

Mileage calcs by fill-up then math is the ONLY way to get real mileage numbers. Stupid meter with buttons show trends and that's about all.

You seem to be on the lower end of the spectrum from what fuelly.com says for the 3.5 (though that may include some 2wd and SR models)

The one thing I noted is fuel economy gets better after around 10k miles as everything has broken in but driving style and pattern make a big difference.

MPG sucks for short drives especially in cold weather as engine hasn't warmed up so does driving fast say 75mph as we do drive big bricks around, not exactly aerodynamic.

Key word here is roughly. I'm still waking up so I will keep it short. Key things determining mileage from a stock vehicle: 1) tires 2) how much you like to play with those two pedals and how smooth you are 3) terrain 4) traffic. I have gotten 16mpg on the same road over the same distance during the same time of day I got 20mpg the day before. The main factor is you. If you drive with mpg's in mind, be smooth with the throttle, don't speed if you don't have to, and work in the lower rev range. Also there are tricks to slow down sooner to avoid having to speed up more at a light in front of you, but that's mostly anticipation. There's also an "instant mpg" feature that shows what you're getting moment to moment....I also just realized this was not a short response and I need coffee

Problem exists between gas pedal and steering wheel (aka, the driver).

The way I drive, I’m happy to even get 16mpg, but I know I can get better mileage if I wanted to.

:ballchain:Driving smooth , not being a jackass and obeying speed limits.......... I got 21-22mpg. Then I hit my 1k miles of boredom.
Now I get 17.8ish cruising 80mph on the highway. All stock except for weight of armor.

Sooooo.... I disconnected my negative battery to install something on the truck. When I reconnected it, my "miles until empty" shot up considerably. Since then, I've ran the tank down and filled back up and now show 370ish miles until empty with a full tank. Not really sure how accurate that is. Previously, the truck would always say 14 mpg. Now it says 15.5 mpg. Neither number, multiplied by the size of the tank get close to 370 miles. I'd have to be getting closer to 18 mpg to get that. I guess I'll run a test again with clocking my mileage at fill up and when I re-fill, plus gallons needed and see.

The mileage with a tacoma sucks. With all my mods and equipment in it, it sucks even more. My Ram 3500 tows with better mileage sometimes. To the point, it’s a toy, I gave up caring about that and just started enjoying it!

Milage for me is very dependent on the wind conditions and how I choose to drive. I live in the mountains of CO and of course the uphill requires more than the down. But my average with about 200lbs of weight in the bed, and 50lbs E-rated 265 tires is 18-19 mpg. I switch to winter tires that are stock'ish' weight and I get low 20s. Not bad IMO... but yea my roommate has a F-150 and it gets better MPG, but he can't off-road on the narrow trails here.

Some people commute longer distance on flat roads and others quick lots of stops with hills... too many variables to really get a good response. Go outside and enjoy your truck! Put it in 4-low! :) From what I am told from friends who own 2nd gen we get slightly better MPG, but yea smaller engine displacement

I had 2 2nd Gens prior to the 3rd Gen, this one definitely gets better gas mileage along with being heavier, more comfortable, quieter, and yea even more HP from the smaller displacement.

I've recently purchased a 2020 OR and live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mts. of VA. I have figured out that my truck gets the best mileage for me here where I live by running it in S 5 . But the most important thing is to keep the rpms under 2000. This requires being smooth taking off and going up inclines. My mileage is always between 21.5 and 22.5.

my 2nd gen gets 18 in the city and 21.5 on the highway. 2000 rpms is the minimum. ;)

20 mpg is about my average. Even mix of city and highway driving. I reset the average tracker every month. Drops a little in months I've towed the boat

Gas mileage has too many variables for you guys to compare yourselves to, escpecially on a vehicle as frequently modded as this one. Tires, lifts, weight, speed, roads, wind, uphill, downhill, air dam or no air dam etc... I just removed my SR5’s air dam and I’m curious about gas mileage myself especially since a OR with more aggressive tires an no air dam is rated for the same fuel economy as a SR5 with an air dam and all season tires.
