I get what you're saying.
I've never hunted hogs, but my (uninformed) choice would be shotgun and slugs if close up.
A deer rifle at longer range would surely be adequate?

I believe I'll get an AR anyway, just because...another gun I haven't owned yet.

 

I don't think I will. Bolt guns are the best for precision IMO. I don't need to shoot fast if the first shot scores. AR's are fun to shoot tho for sure.

 

Nah he is a good dude.... just his visual aids may give you thoughts of gouging out your eyes.

It was actually given to me by a very good friend when he left Alaska. He was charged by a Grizzly his first fishing trip when he got up here. He was unarmed and the 2 guys with him were carrying 44s. They got between a momma bear and her cubs hiking through thick woods down to a fishing spot on the Russian River on the Kenai Peninsula. Long story short, they emptied their 44s as she charged and she dropped just 2-3 yards from them. He bought the 500 that week. At least that's the story told to me, and I have no reason to doubt him.

If I lived in Alaska, I'd damn sure carry something powerful.
A shotgun and slugs preferably.
But if all I could carry was a handgun...yeah.

All we have here are Black Bears.
Not that they can't be dangerous (rarely).
But Grizzlies, from all I've heard, are a whole other thing..
