I know this has been discussed before, sorry to bring it back up. But from the discussions I’ve read about it this point has never come up: how can a V6 OR be rated for the same gas mileage as an SR5 if an SR5 has the air dam, supposedly for fuel savings, and less aggressive all weather tires?

Can be something like 21.8 vs 22.4 MPG. Both round to 22. Difference could be higher if they tested MPG at 80 MPH.

Right, from many of the posts I’ve read the point of the air dam was to get those mpg numbers up, again, if they could just round up, what’s the point? From Toyota’s perspective it’s all about what they can put on the window sticker. If it’s just getting rounded up, why would Toyota spend the $5 to put that air dam on?

No manufacturer lists MPG as fractions, it is rounded to the nearest number.

Seems more like a decorative item similar to the hood scoop.

    .

I assume base model based on engine? Or powertrain, since the V4 and 4x2(V6) both have different mileages?

    Mods? Yes.
I'd put money on the air dam being more about cabin noise reduction and handling at high speeds -- that is, given the EPA MPG estimate is the same

And all this time I've been under the impression that an air dam is what the really cool kids want, and only posers wanted skewps. :anonymous:

In the end it doesn't matter for me. I'll never be one of the cool kids. I've still got OE wheels and tires, and no lift.

I wonder if some spray on mud would help :notsure:

Reminds me of the Wisconsin air cooled engines of yesteryear.

I don’t think they test every trim specifically. I would guess they test a version of 4x4 with V6, 2wd V6 and the 4 banger. I doubt they test a 4x4 OR, Sport, Pro and SR5 individually. My money would be on they tested one of the trims that comes with the spoiler.

No. Just no. This is what happens when you jump into a thread that contains the term “V4”

    the misinformation is rampant.

Since moving here, I’ve notice this is typical northeasterner behavior.

I tend to imagine a person, when upset by a face-to-face conversation, will just blurt out "ignored" and turn around to stare at the wall plaster. Like the real life equivalent of an ostrich burying their head in the sand.
