Don’t spacer lift. Take your time researching and shopping around. Find out what’s best for you and spend a little money to do it right the FIRST time.

Start with what your budget is. I agree with the suggestions of the others here, avoid spacers if you can. There are budget oriented lifts you can buy without going with spacers. Give us an idea of your budget and we can help you from there

Need to update my build thread- but I just put toytec boss Coilovers up front for 2’’ level in the front and boss shocks for the rear. Rides great.. point is, there’s lots of things to consider when looking at a 3’’ lift.

Things you might not think of, especially if you’re doing it properly. Things like UCA’s, rear blocks vs AAL or a whole new leaf pack, extended break lines, diff drop kits, etc etc. plan it out best you can and good luck.

Edit edit: To answer your initial questions, no. Any spacer lift is too high, but a proper three inch lift is not too high at all. You’ll instantly notice a difference when driving it. Add on some true 33’s and it’s really a 4 inch lift.:bananadance:

What's the best way to go but at the same time not the most expensive?

Spacer lifts are fine as long as you don’t Baja your truck. Half the decked out king trucks on here never leave the pavement. Pointless to spend that much money if your never gonna use the truck for what you built it to be used for.

I have a spacer lift on mine. It’s also 2wd

Bilstein 5100s, stock springs (can get you 2.5” if you really want)

Bilstein 5100s/OME Shocks with OME springs (easy 3” with the right springs)

Bilstein 6112s with springs (can get you 2-2.5 inches)

Search and google are your friend. The cheapest non spacer option for close to what you’re asking would be 5100s on the highest setting using your stock springs. Throw an AAL in the back and you’d sit pretty level. I personally wouldn’t recommend that option but it would be better than a spacer lift.

One last bit of insight, if you really want to go over 2” and still feel like you can control your truck on the highway, new UCAs are highly recommended. But that’s another expense...

If you search around you can piece a good quality lift together for relatively inexpensive, like to the point where it's almost the same as a spacer lift. I bought Headstrong 2.5 lift coils, Headstrong 3 leaf progressive AAL, and Bilstein 5100s at all 4 corners with brand new top hats all for 650 bucks. Installed myself, easy.

If you’re just going for looks and not off-road functionality, I think spacer lifts are fine. They’re not ideal but they’ll get the job done if that’s all you want.
Or you could go the route I did, which was browsing local craigslist and marketplace for quality used Tacoma suspension parts. I put together a nice lift for $400 (less than half of what it would cost new). But that takes patience and luck, and you really need to know exactly what you need

We are becoming quite the dynamic duo when it comes to lifting on a budget but still with quality parts.
