When i was on leave last time, i got some BFG 285's i feel like i lost alot of power and am kinda putting some strain on my rear end. I would like to know what some of you have re-geared to, and a good place to get some gears. Any input is appreciated on this, because i really dont know much about gears. Thanks guys

I'm still running stock gears with the same tires as you. However I do have a set of 4.10 gears that I picked up from a member on this board. The 4 bangers (4x4) came with 4.10 gears while our 6's came with 3.73. Due to your new tire size your truck acts as if it has some 3.50 gears. With the 4.10 it will make your truck act almost stock again.
You have quite a bit more weight than I do, with the allpro and winch.

Yea man i honestly have no idea what my truck has back there. I know its not LSD or anything so im going to lock the rear soon. I did some research and found eastcoastgearsupply.com. What all needs to be replaced the carrier? Ring and pinon? Should i get this all together with the locker? Would 4.10 be a good size ya think? I saw somewhere about some 4.11's

I choose the 4.10 because it is a stock option for our trucks. If I'm not mistaken it is just a gear swap. I could be mistaken because I haven't done my swap yet. Being a 4x4 your truck has 3.73 gears. When you call to get the gears I would ask them what all needs to be swaped out also. There may be more envolved because you will be locking your rear at the same time I assume.
I think the 4.10's would be fine if your like me and only do moderate wheeling. I drive on black top more often than Offroad thus the 4.10's make my truck act as if it were stock. If you want to step it up a notch you could go up to some 4.56 gears. These are just my thoughts and opinions. You could pm chris4x4 and he can give you better and more indepth info than myself.

I just learned that eastcoastgearsupply.com will ship you a third member, locked and regeared. Then you remove the one in your truck and send it back to them as a core. I don't know about prices but that would make it easy on you.

Ill have to call and ask them about it. And im almost positive i have to do the front and rear at the same time. I dont know if i want the front locked as well though, heard some negative feedback on that.

You could order the front and have it regeared, not locked or go with a selectable locker up front. Have your rear with a selectable locker and gears. I would assume that that is what they are reffering to when they say you have to do the front and rear at the same time (gears) as you would not be able to use 4wd if you had 4.10 in the rear and 3.73 in the front.

So what i found out is 4.56 are probably the best bet. Im getting it from east coast gears. Im buying the rear 3rd member already locked for the rear and just the ring and pinion for the front. You can do one at a time but you better not put it in 4wd.

I'm running 4.56 with 33's. The gears are stock in my" 02" pre runner, Trd 4 banger. They seem to be a good combo for me with 50/50 on/off road. I know your 2nd gen and not sure of the weight differance but I think you will be happy with 4.56 gears.
If you live in an area (when your home) where you get snow and ice, I would not opt for a full time locker in the rear.

Freakin love it! Thank god i did it too! I have a 34 inch tire and I've gotten alot of power back and mpg. Since you have a 33 inch tire your going to be literally next to stock power and mpg. HUGE Difference imo.... Well worth the 1k I spent. Gears is gonna definitely my most favorite mod haha until I get my Relentless bumper.

Nice, im glad to hear that. I was told its the best dollar for dollar mod you can do. And getting back the power and MPG i had at stock will be awesome! The RPMs dont run high at high speeds do they?
