    Yeah.. But here's the thing-- you know the hole that the UCA goes into? The outer half of that cracked off. It's not like the spindle where it meets the load and the 90 degree bend snapped... I still cannot figure that out.

    Interesting.
    I wonder if there was a tiny bit of play between the uca and spindle. Like missing a washer or something.

    So I am going to be picking up the MCM long travel kit in a couple weeks most likely and will do all this at once. Once I get my old spindles off I'll do some research to find out what went wrong. Mike might have a good point with some play in the hole. I didn't see any scarring on the heim spacer piece that goes in the hole though. We'll see...

    I will have to do some figuring out on how to get tundra axles and manual locking hubs to work. I really don't want to go the RCV route...

    I wish RCV offered axles for manual hub CV's on first gens.
    Only option is the ADD ones. When I asked if they could make them, they said that they'd need a minimum order of 10.

    Okay- I talked to Mike at Off Road Solutions and they sell a basic kit that'll allow me to run Tundra CV axles into manual locking hubs. Yes I know the splines into the hub are a bit weaker, and yes I am okay with that.

    Because I drive to and from the trail, I am completely fine with winching myself out of something worst case scenario with locked 3 wheel drive and being able to unlock my hubs and drive home still.

    So that was good news!

    Alright guys-

    It looks like I'll be rolling with the MCM kit up front.
    In the rear I will be 3-link with ORI struts someday, but for now I am going to get a second gen Taco axle and re-weld some spring perches in the proper location and stick that underneath.

    There really isn't any absolute core reason to stick the second gen rear axle under other than for matching width and the fact that it'll allow me to grab stuff further out from my body when possible (I know it has its drawbacks too). If it was more work, I wouldn't do it until I linked.

    After that I'll have my front differential geared and locked then the ORS CV axles.

    Finally, get the remaining four Trail Ready rims and put some 37s on 'em!


    That being said...I am on the lookout for a second gen rear axle if anyone knows of any around SoCal!

    MCM kit ordered. Should come fast as the last customer backed out and so this was already built fortunately. Not going for the ADS shocks though. Beautiful stuff, but I cannot justify the new price point they just raised them up to. Definitely going to be searching for some used 8" stroke 2.5" reservoir coilover of any top brand.

    Here is the locking hub spindle for reference of where mine broke...

    2.5 King Remote Reservoir shocks ordered from Down South Motorsports. Should be around 4 weeks lead time.
    MCM Fab kit should be good to go soon.
    Got my spindle gussets on their way too.

    So that center hole is part of the gusset, but it was dimple flared (if that is even to correct term). My family's friend is a much better and far more knowledgeable welder than I ever could be and I felt this was something crucial enough to be done by a professional...

    I noticed that and had asked- what was explained is that dimple flare is for is a trick to increase rigidity and strength. For lack of a better way of explaining it in my words, it'll simulate a slightly thicker piece of metal being used, but without the cost or weight.

    yea adding dimples to metal is a great way to strengthen it.
    Never seen anyone add one to a gusset. Not a bad idea! Those spindles will be strong as hell now i'm sure.
