Need tires. Which tires to go with?

I'm in the market for some new tires for my 2006 Tacoma 4x4 with 17" inch rims. Taco has a leveling kit on it. Price is not a factor. I'm leaning toward the BFG KO2's but am reading mixed reviews. I do alot of mountain driving. Right now the truck has some Ameicus AT 285/70/R17. They're loud and I'm getting a bit of rub and want to get rid of that. Which tires and what size would Tacomaworld recommend? Thanks!

Mountain driving huh??? How much snow do you encounter is the triple peak designation a necessity for you? Wet weather traction needed? Do you go offroading a lot? There is a lot of questions to be asked before making any reccomendations or choices out there.

I have a cabin in big bear California which doesn’t get a crazy amount of snow but I do want them to be snow friendly. Some light off-roading once a month, and not much rain in LA. It’s my daily driver but my commute is minimal and not everyday. Want something that looks beefy and also provides a smooth ride

 

I really like that look. How do they ride?

 

They ride beautifully and this is my second set and I will get them again

 

Look at the more aggressive type AT then. Cooper STT Maxx, Toyo Open Country AT, Nitto terra Grappler, Goodyear Duratrac, BFG KO2 etc. You'll find good and bad for all of them. Personally I like the STT Maxx the best our of them all that I listed then the DuraTracs.

 

They are a mud terrain so you have to be diligent with maintenance or they can start having wear issues and getting noisy.

I've been totally happy with my Duratracs. Great on the trails, in the rocks and mud and excellent road manners.

 

I had BFG KO2's in an E Rating.Too many balancing issues for me.I gave up on them after 25,000 miles.I went with Duratrac this time.Still E rating but they ride smooth and are balanced well.A C-rated tire would be more than enough for my needs..265/75 -16.

 

Your requirements are tough to cover.

Consider buying a tire for the 90+% of the use of the truck and let the compromise fall in the looks area.

 

or the XLT that is another good choice I forgot about.

I mess with my air pressure a lot to get a good middle ground for ride, wear, and contact. I run my MTPs at 30

This too get a lower rated tire as far as the load range in the size you want less rotating weight will help with fuel mileage.

You could probably bump up a size a tad bit and be ok without any rubbing if you want them to look aggressive.
