It is hard to say if it is a fuel or oil smell. I don’t always smell it either. Any ideas what it could be? I’ve researched the site, but couldn’t really find a solution. Truck is a 2007 with the v6. Oh, and it has 307,000 miles. The smell is usually when I warm it up in the morning in my garage.

On warm up and in the garage. I did smell it once in the cabin, but that was during the day with the windows rolled down and in traffic, so that could have been someone else’s car.

Thats gonna be tough to find. If you don't see anything leaking under the hood or on the pavement, I wouldn't worry about it.

Are the valve cover gaskets leaking?

Yea. I’ve been searching for leaks, but haven’t found any yet. None on the ground. I looked at the fuel lines and under the hood, and nothing. The one thing I saw was fluid (which I assume was gas) on the oring of the gas cap. Not sure if that means anything, but I may just buy a new from the dealer and see where that goes.

Its probably fine. if its leaking, its leaking little enough that you can keep an eye on it.

It is not leaking like the car I drove in high school, which once had the fuel tank return line pop off...

They don’t appear to be based on a visual. There is dust, nothing else.

The smell isn’t always around, which is odd.

Would power washing the engine bay cause anything under the hood to leak gas or fuel fumes?

Possibly...others will chime in but I’ve always heard that power washing under the hood can cause issues with seals etc...especially on a truck with 300k miles

OP I've noticed the same thing on my 2009 recently. When I warm it up in the morning but that is the only time. Haven't noticed any leaks on my end either, I was thinking the smell was a slight exhaust leak. Haven't been concerned enough to look into it yet.
