DIY Bed Fishing Rod holder

Has anyone rigged up a way to transport fishing rods in the truck bed that are longer than the diagonal or length of the bed?

 

You trying to go vertical or what? I transport 9ft fly rods and 7ft baitcasters by setting the reel on the center console and running them through the sliding back window. I put all the rods angled to the driver side so I can close the window all but an inch to keep them from being pulled out. Been doing it this way for years. If no one is in the passenger seat I just put the butt end down in the passenger footwell and they are angled such that they fit inside.

 

i'm trying to go horizontal. I don't have access to the window because i have a soft topper. basically just want to secure while i have the tailgate open...

 

I would just use something like

$17 Seachoice 3-Rod Storage Holder, Black, ABS Plastic

this. And bolt them to a mount you can either buy like . The mount to the bed rail would be easy enough to make with supplies from Home Depot. You could then put a little bungie cord attached to the top of the rod holder to secure at the bottom to ensure they don't slip out. Similar to what I use on my Hobie seen here.

 

I put mine in the bed with the tailgate up and use these magnets to keep the rods from bouncing around the tailgate.
