No test rides unless cash in hand. If they hand you an envelope make sure there is cash in it. Had a buddy have his bike stolen that way.

Full asking price in hand. You drop it, you buy it. Or you can ride it for them.

It takes a bit of trust on the part of both of you. What I did last time was hold onto the cash and the guy’s license after seeing it had a motorcycle endorsement.

Also why are you selling it? Have been interested in those bikes. Have anymore details on it? Year, mileage, price?

Others said it but cash in hand. You hold on to cash + M1 license until they’re back

2017 with just under 4k miles. Barely broken in. I love the crap out of it, but we need to get a new car for my wife and I could use the downpayment. I'd look into a newer one later. It has just about every accessory you can add to one - factory panniers, gps, swegotech fork shield, etc. So much power and fun, but the wife needs to get to work safely and her current vehicle is pooping out.

that thing is sweet, I have been drooling over africa twins and dominators since the late 80s

as far as test rides go it really needs to come down to a last minute decision, after meeting someone and speaking with them you can start to get a feel, seeing whet they pull up in or on plus checking for a valid license and a Motorcycle endorsement are important, bringing their own helmet and showing cash monies are also parts of the puzzle

I have purchased used bicycles where the seller wouldnt let me ride it and have purchased used motorcycles where people have thrown me the keys... It really comes down to that initial face to face interaction and making that call on the spot. mostly a character judgement call..

No, do not let them ride your bike, even with cash in hand. Reason being, if they get into an accident, it goes on your insurance. The last thing you want is for someone to hit another person, as you could be sued.

By that logic do you not let people test drive your cars?

Nope, I drive and they sit in the passenger seat.

As a former insurance adjuster, I know the horrors that can arise from letting someone else drive your vehicle.

My biggest gripe is when people test ride a bike and then don't buy it when it runs beautifully.

Usually something like " it runs great, I'll have to think about it and I'll get back to you"

What I do now is explain to them before they ride : yes I am happy to let you test ride it l, but only once you have decided that you want it when you find it runs good. Until then you can sit on it, hear it run, watch me ride it... but your not taking my bike for a spin until you know you want it and there is an agreed upon price. It is the very last step before money is exchanged.

Signing of the bill of sale would be a good step to slip in there as well. I always print 2 copies and we sign both.

i avoid people that say that. I want to test ride to see if I like it. How do I know if I like it before i ride it?

Go to the dealer first? :notsure: If it’s modded though I get you might want to feel I if out. I won’t be letting anyone test ride my crf that I’m selling most likely.

So you are comfortable letting complete strangers ride your bike to see if they would like it? And how many people would you let do so before it becomes an issue for you? I have tried to sell a bike before and had probably 5 or 6 people come and "test ride" it just to never get back to me. (This was a bone stock 08 cbr1k) That was the turning point for me. No more will I let my pride and joys be these peoples' method of finding out if they "like" a particular bike or not. Nor would I show up and ask to take someone's bike for a spin to see if I would like it or not.

If it’s a stock bike, I’d just tell them to go to the dealer if and ask for a test ride there. They get paid to do that. Or charge a $50 test ride fee and if they want the bike, take it out of the cost of the bike. That way you either get someone who’s actually interested in the bike and going to buy it or you get yourself an extra $50
