As well as drops boost. The bad way.

 

Mines been fine since I installed. Figured it was better than mud and sand clogging up my air filter like it did before and dropped boost down to 2psi. Don’t have fender liners in the wheel well at all and the tires were throwing too much shit into the intake box.

 

Nature of the beast. A worthy trade-off for a non blown engine.

 

Yeah. I hit 7 psi with it. And everything runs smooth.

 

At one point, I had no fender liner in my truck, on that side. Nearly hydrolocked my stroker engine because of the water that was misted up there, during Harvey. Fender liners or snorkels FTW. Lol.

 

Tentatively on Friday, I’m getting some suspension work done and finally doing my Wilwood bbk kit.

 

Didn’t you hydrolock the STS turbo?

 

Had a friend that nearly happened to as well with his 2nd gen. He put 35s on and had to remove the fender liners, didn't put them back on. Didn't realize the intake was completely exposed and we went wheeling the next weekend after a rain storm. Went through a giant water pit...then he went, and it wasn't pretty lol. His truck stalled and wouldn't start, but once we removed the air filter (soaking wet) it started up. He got really lucky the air filter caught all that water.

He put a snorkel on a week or so later

 

I noticed no change in my boosted 04 after installing a snorkel. If anything I saw a decrease in IAT's, but noticed no change in boost (better or worse)

 

That I did. Looooong ago. Good memory.

Technically it never locked. It just kept spinning with fewer parts....

 

So I run a snorkel on my truck. How I get the best of both worlds is just remove the cover to the afe stage 2 when not wheeling. Sure im drawing warmer air when the truck is at idle/not moving but when going down the road the air temp is rarely over 2° over ambient temp.

 

If you really want your cake and to eat it too, you can do the cowl snorkel mod like a few have done before. It looks legit, but if you don't do it the right way you will rob the HVAC fan of airflow due to the air demand the engine is creating.

 

The pulley is so... BIG.

 

I’m curious how that oil filler cap comes off.

Also his picture reminds me. Anyone of you interested in buying a Greddy oil cooler?

 

definitely a trade off with the snorkel. I did some comparison testing back when I first installed my snorkel, affects MAF and boost numbers, but not enough for me to go back. I would constantly put the truck in limp mode out on the trail with the Arizona dust clogging my filter. With the snorkel, I have never had another issue since.

 

With the stock tacoma filler neck, its like using two pinkies to spin it off and then wiggling it out.

With a tundra neck, its like 1-2" shorter. . Waaaay better. Props to @loginfailed

My engine oil cooler kit uses their thermostatic filter sandwich adapter.
