What are you paying for 2020 Tacomas?

While I think I can agree $8K off of $40K truck would be nearly impossible, even with rebate, but it can be done when you work with a desperate dealer during certain period of time.

My deal is more than 12% off of MSRP (below) and with rebate it's over 15%. How do you figure that they'll get me somewhere else? There's no dealer added accessories and no other commitment to purchase other products. I can even have the truck delivered to my residence and sign paperwork here at my home w/o purchase or sales pressure. The price I see is what I pay before taxes and license that are fixed by law. In CA, dealer doc fee is limited to $85 plus tax.

Some folks here factor in rebates such as me so your claim that a dealer is getting money from somewhere else is not always true. So question for you - do you have stats to back up your claim? Just really curious.

 

I'm talking before rebates dude. Rebates mean nothing as the dealer gets that money back from Toyota. What the other poster was referring to is they can fudge with other things mainly finance rate, when you get approved they have a window with the APR to play with which most people are unaware of. Or if your trading, dealer fees, etc. In your case sure sounds like you did your homework, got a great deal and didnt have as many moving parts. Just look at my sig, I've had 12 tacos, 6 third gens, I have a good idea of "invoice" and the process. Anything more than 12% they are taking a loss on the truck itself, unless of course you factor in the rebate which in that case toyota is making up for that loss, or they will try to get some money back through financing, accessories, fees, warranties. Most even the high volume dealers that are about pushing inventory over each deal are not going to sell vehicles consistently at a loss, which again as I alluded to when I see people (not saying you specifically) claim 15% or more off MSRP I am skeptical of the said deal, and as you even said you factored in rebates which changes the whole picture especially given you're rebates were almost 5% of MSRP.

Take my latest deal for instance, I broke down everything prior to the rebate and with rebate, putting me right at 12% and I only had the $500 rebate (took the 1.9% financing instead).

"Just signed the papers. 2020 TRD OR DCSB 4WD in Cement. Led package, premium package, tonneau cover, tech package and door sills / all weather floor mats. MSRP $44523, negotiated $39560, then another $500 off with military rebate (took promotional TFS APR instead of $1000), bringing it to $39060 before TTL (which trade credit was $576 and $200 plates/reg $300 doc fee). So 12% off MSRP, but holy h*ll I had to battle for that price"

 

I can somewhat agree if your claim is based on the deals BEFORE rebates and I see the pattern between 8-12% off MSRP for Tacomas recently, but what I'm saying is you have no statistical evidence to back up your claim that it's nearly impossible to get 12% off MSRP before manufacturer rebate. Just b/c you bought many cars/trucks or otherwise may be helped many friends with purchases, that doesn't mean you can't get anything higher than 12% off. There will be people who are just better than anyone at car buying and/or know the process to their advantage. Just saying....

Again..... let me see the statistical evidence you have to back up your claim.

 

I said skeptical I never said it doesn't happen, JFC. And yes again BEFORE REBATES. Take for instance you're deal, you take out the rebates and you're right at 12% which is the higher end of the norm and no where near 15%, you had $2k in rebates which is again about 5% of MSRP. And ya there is no way in hell any of this is legitimate or "statistical evidence" no one was arguing that and not sure why you brought that in to play, this is an internet forum where people can claim or post whatever they want, but yes off of owning these trucks for a long time and alot of them, all sorts of regions and being a member here for a long time, I think its okay to say that being skeptical of people posting crazy deals is not out of question, does it happen, sure outliers exist in every facet of life.

 

Just wanted to find out if you had anything to back it up. that's all. after all this thread is about how much you paid for 2020 tacomas, so i figured it would help me and others.

Exactly, which is why I always offer advice or clarify deals, just like I did in the 2016, 17, 19 and 20 threads when I bought mine. What doesnt help is when people fudge deals to make themselves feel better and that certainly doesnt prepare or give future buyers realistic expectations. Everyone wants huge discounts but also wants great resale, can't have both. No sweat man, just felt a bit attacked.

 

The trends here in this thread, other posts in the forum and other forums in general are filled with information and advice not true at all and no back up claims. I come here to get information and validate that information for me and others and I found your claim very interesting and wanted to get pick your brain and get more info. That's is why we have forums, I think, exchange ideas and information.

I had no intention to attack you (hey why would I attack on someone I need more info from, right). For some reason, I thought you had info I can use and educate myself on. I thought it would be a good idea to get this conversation going as I hate dealerships when they rip people off who are not well-versed in finances.

 

Sorry man, I had a rough clinical rotation at the hospital last night, trying to study for my med surg exam wed and took a break for this and just for some reason on edge and misread your post. I have no secret information besides what most of us have talked about here, all the moving parts of any deal, how rebates work, "ordering", finance, etc.

I went in with anything but black, but I had a list from 1 to 6 or whatever of all the other colors. If this color is option 2, then tell them you'll do it for something else IE extra floor mats, throw in an oil change, etc whatever. If you're set on the cement, tell them no. I had white as number 1, told them anything in my top 3 is cool. Honestly don't remember the other colors anymore.

 

Hey, I'm looking for advice...
Looking to purchase a 2020 Tacoma OffRoad DCSB 4WD.
The one I'm interested in buying has a MSRP $43,518 (with Adv. Tech Package $1670, Radio Premium $2415, Blackout Package $415, Predator Tube Steps $649,.)
They offer a "Dealer Discount" of $2,222 + "TMS Customer Cash" of $1,500. => Sale Price @ $39,796.
I actually went this past weekend, spoke with a sales-rep and he sort of seemed he wanted to help me get the best deal. He suggested I apply through the TrueCar from Sam's Club to see what kind of discounts they offered. Price came out to be $38,996.
What this be a reasonable good deal? Or am I getting the crappy end of the stick??

That’s a weak $3,722 discount from MSRP. You can do much better on a 2020 Tacoma. Where are you located?

I was very hesitant once they started giving me #s for monthly payments.
$700 x 75 months => $52,500

It didnt feel quite right.

 

Assuming those payments are for the $42,641 amount in the picture, that would put your interest rate around 6.9%. That seems a little high. If you have good credit, I would think you should be able to 3.9% or less. A lot of the local credit unions in my area have rates around 3.25% for 72 months, though that’s tier 1.

 

Dealer is taking you to the cleaners with that crazy high interest rate. You will paying on this truck for over 6-years and won’t it have it paid off until 2026. Ouch!!! Plus this one doesn’t have the $485 LED headlight option. Keep looking...

 

Thanks!!!! Yeah, i did crunch the numbers in and it seem ridiculous to have $10,000 in interest. I was hoping payments wouldnt go past $650 or that my APR was lower. I've checked my credit score and its over 750 atm.

You're probably going to have to go to another dealer for a better price. Lots of dealers in TX.
