    Thicker oil can cause the leak to worsen (unlikely), just top it up with any GL5 oil and it will be fine.

    Top it off with any proper gear oil and you'll be fine. 75W90 is easy to come by and I have run that in the past.

    East Coast Gear Supply recommends 85W140 and 80W90 and I have ran both with no issues.

    A limited slip differential would be a different story but “temporarily” using another weight in the front differential, in my opinion, wouldn’t hurt anything.

    Heck....I knew guys in the 60’s who owned oil burners and ran them on free used waste oil from the local garages.
    Disclaimer......Although I don’t recommend that

    TY, I was wondering about running it around town dry but am unsure as to if this is safe or not so I figured better safe than.... so not serious if dry around town???

    As long as the 4/4 shifter ain’t pulled you can drive it to Anchorage.... nothing will be turning in there.

    That is not correct, the spider gears in the diff still spin as the driver side axle is connected (assuming you have ADD)

    Quite possible, I thought the hubs disengage the wheel from axle even on the auto locking hubs. Mine has manual hubs thus the axles remain stationary when disengaged

    ADD only disconnects the passenger side axle from the differential. The driver side is connected directly to the differential with no disconnect
