3rd Gen Tacoma - has a Spoiler !

Someone posted this YouTube link in an Air Dam thread. In it a Toyota Engineer talks about several aerodynamic design features, including the spoiler at about 7:30. I hadn't thought of it as a spoiler until he pointed it out.

Didnt watch the video as I dont care for tfl very much but toyota does refer to the shape of the top of the tailgate as a spoiler for aero purposes.

 

The downforce is incredible. Just cannot break this truck loose!!!!!!

 

Immediately after describing the spoiler, and its usefulness,they go to a shot of the truck going 5 mph off-road.

 

I dunno what speed the spoilers and ground effects come into affect, but my truck has never seen those speeds. I cannot afford the fuel to get it there.

 

I could tell you what the video says, but that would be a spoiler for those who haven't seen it yet.

 

And how bout those tailight canards.

 

Look around a virtually all late model trucks. Same design on the tailgate.

 

C'mon, everyone knows it's all ball bearings nowadays.

 

I had to go outside and see if I had those vortex generators by my mirrors. Yup, they're there.

 

Toyota:

“let’s add taillight canards for .00024 MPG better fuel economy”

Everyone else:

“slap a Prinsu on that bitch. I’d didn’t buy a truck for fuel economy”

Even though rear truck spoiler type thing has been around, good on Toyota for looking over truck and what not

a Tacoma is a truck truck,
