Bear spray only, and usually have a bear bell or we talk along the route.. Obviously hunting you wouldn’t do the noise thing, but it’s best for a likely encounter area. Some will carry a larger caliber pistol, I’ve never felt the need. Might be a good idea to just pop over to the Montana thread to ask someone for the specific area you’ll be in. I don’t hunt any more so you can get input from a hunters perspective on their possible encounters doing the sneaky walk thing.

Funny? Looks to me as if 22LR priced have gone up by 50% in the last couple of days. A box of 50 average stuff was $2 a couple of days ago now $3.

“buy once cry once” buying a suppressor is not a place to be a cheapass

But why? It’s pretty much a novelty item, not like anyone’s life depends on how well it functions. Well, not those of us that have to jump through hoops to get them.

Side note, I hate when people say buy once cry once. Buy what you want based on your needs. Not everyone needs King’s.

Mine sure aren’t novelty items, my Griffin Optimus is an important piece of hearing protection equipment and it’s function is critical because it’s on my home defense rifle.
My Checkmate QD is a useful tool for both hunting and as recoil/sound mitigation when introducing new shooters to shooting.

Hell, it may just be me but I don’t think I‘ve ever bought anything shooting related just for novelty, especially not something that is on my gun and has a direct correlation to its function.

Right, but it’s not like there’s moving parts to fail. It may be a little heavier or maybe a couple dB louder. I’m not saying expensive suppressors are a waste of money, who cares what others spend their money on. But someone saying everyone needs an expensive suppressor is kinda silly.

I had to use my carry gun to dispatch a water moccasin today, very impressed by how much of a splash Browning BXP .40 ammo makes.
The snake was only about 14” long and there wasn’t a lot left of it either.

There are for pistol cans though. Recoil boosters turn the whole can into a moving part, and if they're not well build they are much more likely to fail. The reason that cheap suppressors are usually recommended against is because cheap ones do fail and require rework (by an SOT, not something you can do yourself) much more often than good ones. If you want a suppressor you could go the ultra cheap route and just form 1 an oil filter and mount for it, there are SOT's dedicated solely to legally swapping oil filters for customers because you legally can't do that at home. The next step up from there is cheap cans, then good cans, then expensive cans.

The difference between good cans and expensive cans is heavier vs louder, expensive cans are durable, light, and quiet. Cheap cans are almost universally louder, sometimes much heavier, and much more likely to fail.

If you want a cheap can that won't fail on a pistol, you could F1 your own, with a good booster and an aluminum can+baffles. It will erode fairly quickly, but it'll be cheap novel fun. But, if you're spending $200+parts or can, buy a decent multipurpose one that you can move from host to host and you'll enjoy shooting in all conditions more, especially indoors where cans are the most drastic in how much they improve the shooting experience.

I'm not telling you to buy an expensive can, but buying a cheap can is definitely a waste of money unless it is literally just a mantelpiece mount. Suppressors don't have to be expensive items, but there's a reason they're rarely cheap.

Take the base off of the PA sight and it should mate right up to the T1 mount

Disregard. I just noticed the base was integrated into the sight. The newer PA micro dots use a T1 mounting solution

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
To bad they are probably already bought up. Why the hell are people buying up guns and ammo during this time? I had bad timing I guess and added a little 380 to my stock. Not even sure if I'll be able to get it with the closures, but I stopped by Cabelas today for hollow points. The shelves are clean!! Fortunately i ordered 1000 rds of training ammo online!! People are getting sick, not turning into zombies!

Probably for the contingency against the same people willing to rob a gas station for $60 during a “normal time.”

I did read an article where a guy bought one to protect himself. Never owned a gun. Yeah that's safe. Fortunately I have enough and ammo. Just got in a conversation with my wife's cousin a few weeks back, and decided it was time to purchase a 380 pocket pistol. Poor timing I guess. Just hoping my pistol permit dept doesn't close and FFL allows me to pick it up. Ammo is kind of a moot point if that happens.

I don’t have an opinion personally. I wouldn’t call myself a prepper nor do I walk around with a tin hat, but I recognized that things could always happen and complacency is a real killer. To that end, I have enough gear, weapons and ammo to conduct small operation into or out of a city. Better to have the capability and not need it then to be SOL if the time comes. The way I see it, other people I don’t know aren’t my problem before me and mine.
