I had to go back to Toyota today because I was given the wrong oil/air/cabin air filters for my year model(I didn't check the bag before I left).

I notice the new filters were skinnier and longer than I've been using and after research it seems the filters they have been giving me were for the 2.7. I've been running these short ones atleast since I bought the truck a year and a half ago.. i always specify I have a 4.0 and they should be asking anyway.

So is there any chance I'm gonna have engine issues because of this?

You're fine. I run them both on my truck. It all depends on what I have on hand at the time of my oil change.

All it is is a longer filter.

If you were going to have issues, you probably would have had them by now.
I’d just continue using the correct filter and keep driving.
Most (all) filters have a by-pass. If oil is restricted enough by the filter media, the by-pass opens to allow oil to continue to flow through the filter. Although it’s unfiltered, it’s better than no oil flow.

I really think you are fine.
    It going to be OK:thumbsup:

You have the 2.7? If so the bigger filter is an upgrade for you. In my case a downgrade.

I know the dealer isn't gonna admit fault or do a compression test and valve train examination to see if they caused damage from lack of oil flow or not filtered oil. It is what it is now.

Of course they’re not going to do a compression test and start going thru your engine to find any damage, did they do one before they sold you the wrong filters to have a baseline to compare it to to know whether or not a filter was the cause of damage or if it has had low compression for years?

As for how to solve your problem, either go in from now on with a part number for what you want or use your Vin to order parts. Every brand dealership by me, from Honda to Chevy to Dodge to Toyota in my area require a vin number to order any part, and by any part, I mean any part. I can’t get a jug of coolant from my local dodge dealer for my Jeep without my vin to avoid any mix ups or issues.

FYI you can get a multi year supply of Toyota filters at a good price on Amazon.

What’s the big deal here? It’s only gonna require you to fill the oil pan a tad more since the filter holds more oil.

The short filter is what comes from the factory. I just ask for D3 oil filters when I get them.

You're fine. There's probably 3 extra ounces of oil capacity in the larger filter and 10-15% more media. This certainly didn't cause any damage, and don't consider looking for any by doing compression tests, etc.

If you're wrenching on the vehicle yourself its your responsibility to make sure the correct parts are being used. Hold the filters up side by side and make sure they match before installing next time.

You're lucky its just some paper filters and an oil filter (with the same threads) that got mixed up. Other more critical parts could actually cause damage if installed incorrectly.

I don’t trust the dealership counter salesmen, do a little internet research with what parts you need & go in there with part numbers ready for them.

Short filter, tall filter... use them both, couldn’t care less and coming up on 180k with 7,500mi oci’s. Zero oil loss between changes (that I can see) and considering 10k- just depends on what Blackstone says.
