The more we test, the lower the kill rate will become. What if it ends up being on par with the flu, which I think it will? I mean, we are destroying our economy over this. I’d rather get the virus to be honest.

Yea but people with health issues and 65+ would probibly disagree with you LOL!!

Like I've said earlier if we were the only country wigging out I would be throwing the BS flag, but its the entire globe, something's up with that!

Either way the effects of this are here and time to strategize money making and employment plans around it.

I think the wiki leaks dump on this in a few years will give us the whole story on the concerns around it!

It's an interesting virus compared to the others, mother nature is definately taking a shot across our bow with this one and letting us know shes still in charge!

I as well didnt realize the swine flu was as bad as it was and I was right in the target age range of that at the time.

Sorry I just don’t like being told what to do. I never go to McDonald’s, but once you tell me I can’t, it’s on!

And statistically this virus is 10X more deadly AND we have no vaccine as we do for the more common forms of influenza. Take it seriously if you have family members or friends that you care about. If it is ultimately much less deadly than the Spanish Flu it will be because precautionary measures were effective.

Oi, I have a degree in statistics. Well, almost, I am 1 credit (currently enrolled) away form earning it.

While this is true, we have to accept two flaws here.

    1. Under-reported cases. There are a lot of people who get tested late on and find out they've had it this whole time, a lot of people present only slight symptoms, last I read about 20% were asymptomatic anyway. When someone wakes up dead, they test them. When someone wakes up alive, they might not be tested. So there's a lot of recoveries being unreported. This also includes rural China without access to the means for testing and reporting from testing. To also be fair, this includes rural china where deaths may be unreported as well.

    2. China. Not to be political, but we can't always trust the state media from China, who may be under-reporting cases. For multiple reasons, one being they may want to under-report how bad it is so foreign investors don't flee, and China can continue its boom ASAP. Another being they don't want to look like they weren't able to contain it, being one of the richest countries in the world. They likely are under-reporting deaths but not as much, since it's hard to hide bodies.

So yeah, we have no vaccine which is causing it to be more deadly, because the same at-risk population from the seasonal flu doesn't have this in their flu shot. But the statistics on this are a total clusterf#$% right now, not worth fear mongering over the mortality rate.

On a side note, related to this thread, futures hit limit down again overnight. I wasn't expecting to be on the upswing of this whole thing today, but was at least somewhat hopeful after yesterday. Oh well. Geronimo!

COVID-19 is on no level comparable to the Spanish Flu.
I think you heard Trump reference 1918 and drew outlandish conclusions.

The mortality rate of this condition for reasons stated above is very minor compared to other flu epidemics and likely won't even touch the devastation of the Spanish flu. The Spanish Flu got to be so bad because it was at a time when viruses weren't yet discovered (so understanding of the condition was very low) and public health was still at its infancy.

Please do not spread misinformation. That's what is leading to this harmful mass hysteria.

I would be willing to bet that this doesn’t even come close to H1N1, which caused 575,000 deaths worldwide, and 12,000 in the U.S.

Got to love all of the virtue signaling at associating this virus with China, the place it is believe to have originated. Are we going to have to go rewrite history and rename every pandemic associated with a location, the Asian Flu (1957-1958), Hong Kong Flu (1968-1970), Russian Flu (1889-1890), Spanish Flu (1918-1919), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (2012)...?

Blood bath. Oil under 25 a barrel:eek: This ain't over yet. (just rechecked, oil under 24 a barrel?!?!)

Writing has been on the wall and we've all known it was coming in the back of our minds, you could have ignored the signs all you wanted... but they were there and you likely noticed them. This bubble was just WAY too big.

I truly feel bad for those folks that think their world is ending or has ended from these financial cycles. The show must and will go on. Keep the eyes and minds open.

I don't want to come across wrong, even though I think this whole thing is ridiculous. I work from home (did long before this situation). I have not been in public lately other than grocery shopping. If I get sick, I won't leave the house for a few weeks. I understand the danger of infecting older folks, and would never do anything to risk that. I just don't buy the hype that the "media" is selling.

yeah there’s a lot of xenophobia that happens with China a lot. The problem is we Americans eat like 3 staple animals. The Chinese eat dozens of different animals and insects. The chances of inheriting this or other diseases comes from that. But there’s a lot of anti China about the whole thing because people want....I’ll stop there before this may turn political?! But, yeah for the first contractor of the disease to be from China isn’t surprising if it’s hopping animal to human.

I think there’s a few people in January who pulled out because they plan to retire in 2025 and they’re lucky as hell.

same thing you’d probably do if you got the regular seasonal flu. There is a difference in that there’s no chance people are vaccinated. But yeah if I get it I’m stocked up on non perishables enough to get me through it. And to be fair it’s only 2 weeks of supplies. There’s basically no part of this country where people shouldn’t be ready for 2 weeks. Hurricanes, blizzards, earthquakes, you name it everywhere in the country has something that can halt them for a week or so.

I understand that, and I am not ignorant as to why "Chinese virus" gets thrown around. However, this is the result of one of two things, either it's a biological weapon, or it is a result of eating those things, which have created viruses in the past. I am actually saying that we do need to put pressure on China over this. I think they owe the world either an apology if it was accidental, or a lot of hurt if it was intentional. It is something that shouldn't keep happening, they need to solve this.
