I came across an ad for a lifted 3rd gen and clicked on the free Carfax link. At the top, it says "Damage Reported". I thought the truck had been in an accident. However, above that, it also says "No Accidents Reported". So, looked down and found "Damage: Suspension alteration reported by seller".

The interesting thing is that last time I went to my dealer for service, the SA asked me if I had lifted the truck. I said no, then he asked me a second time (I said "no" again). WTF, so if my truck had been lifted and I had answered "yes", my truck's Carfax would have been flagged as "Damaged" by the dealer (??)

So what...Carfax can’t guarantee the history of a vehicle they can only provide information that was recorded or reported. Always have a used vehicle inspected by someone who is skilled in the task assigned to them. When you change a vehicle’s suspension or wheels or whatever from oem yes that can be considered damage that’s why aftermarket stuff really doesn’t add any value to a vehicle.

The information that was recorder or reported was that the truck was lifted, not that it was damaged. Carfax assumed that the truck was damaged, an assumption that they're not qualified to make, since they didn't inspect the truck. All I'm asking is for Carfax not to lie. A better option would be to call it "Modification Reported: Have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic before purchase" or something of that sort.

Yea it’s not completely accurate anyways. My last car I traded had nearly the entire rear passenger quarter of the vehicle replaced (giant chunk of the unibody cut out and replaced, wheel, airbag which didn’t deploy but was damaged, lots of the suspension, etc etc), I was shocked it wasn’t totaled.

I bought the car fax so I would know what to expect when I went to trade it and literally all it says is Accident reported - Minor Damage
    Vehicle towed
And a graphic indicating the ‘damage’ was somewhere at the passenger rear.

Didn’t even get asked about it.

Don't ever trust a Car Faux Report. I had a new Kia Sorento that ended up having two major oil leaks, a bad radiator and it stalled occasionally for no reason (not cool on the highway btw). After several months the dealer bought it back and put it up for sale on its lot. I pulled up the car faux and sure enough they showed every visit I made to the dealership service department but each visit listed only something minor such as a rattles, oil change, malfunctioning seat, etc, that they also worked at the same time they addressed the major repairs. I contacted Car Faux several times and asked them what was up? They finally admitted that they only report what the Dealership reports to them. I feel sorry for the poor SOB who bought that vehicle.
