Not too sure. I do know that IHG is a good one. They are competitors with Hilton Honors. So, Holiday Inn’s, Candlewood, Staybridge, Hotel Indigo, etc.. I like them because I travel for work and this is the brand that I use. Love them.

I do agree that electric vehicles will be viable some day, I just don’t think we are even close yet. Maybe when they charge themselves with momentum and inertia. Same thing with solar, wind, etc. One day they’ll probably take over, but it will be a while.

Well unless we have some significant changes to the laws of thermodynamics, that’s not gonna happen. ;)

But, better battery and charging technology certainly will be developed.

Haha, well, I rode in a Prius once, and I thought it was interesting that whenever the vehicle was coasting, the battery was charging. I actually rented an electric car too, and there were points at which the battery had more charge than when we picked it up from the rental place (we never charged it, it was just from cruising on hills). I think technology will find a way to charge the battery in an amplified way eventually. Just look at superchargers, they figured out a way to force more air into an intake.

It really depends on where you are and how you use the vehicle. I know folks here with pure-electric and they do fine - their commutes are 10-20 miles, we're in Georgia where it doesn't get stupid cold, and they have another vehicle (or rent) for any roadtrips. I see tons of Leafs and Teslas on the roads here. Still a fraction of the overall market, but I see them daily.

Looks like you're out in CO - where you're likely doing regular distances not really conducive to electric.

The big crux is going to be charging speed and infrastructure - many/most hesitancy is related to those limitations; how do you do a roadtrip? What if I forget to charge overnight? How do I not end up stranded? Those sorts of concerns need to be addressed.

Still need to sit by the side of the road for ~30 minutes or more, depending on generator output, while you recharge. Right now I can do it in a straight shot with a splash and dash fill up which takes me 5 minutes and I can get a cheeseburger.

That said, I could do my work commute for a week on one charge, or there abouts. 5 mi each way. So yeah I could definitely have an electric vehicle, or reliably use a plug in hybrid on just electric. But I don't want to have two cars for just me, plus my wife's daily driver too.

Yes, because the energy was generated by the internal combustion engine and then a small portion was recovered to charge the battery. The same is not possible with an electric only vehicle. Otherwise you’d have free energy, which we all know isn’t a thing.

Increasing battery life and reducing charging times is where we’ll see the most innovation. And in ICE/electric hybrids where you can do some energy recovery like the Prius

Yeah flip a coin at this point. I actually don't know why we're up today, there is more news about stimulus but nothing significant, last I checked. After futures + opening dive.

Wish I had a day trading setup I would be able to take a year off if I knew what I was doing :|

I used to do that man but I lost a lot of money. I made a lot of money before I lost it though
I honestly wouldn’t worry about it. I changed my strategy to long term. It’s a lot safer.

I hope yesterday was the bottom. I think my retirement stuff was down $170K from the peak at one point yesterday so it's going to be a long road to get back to where we were.

I am not an engineer so I can't argue how this could happen. I will say though, if you explained to someone with a horse and buggy that Ferraris were coming, they wouldn't have believed you. I think someday there will be batteries that pretty much last forever.

... and therein is the crux - and the barrier to adoption for most folks.

Solve the quick-recharge-and-on-your-way problem and you'll be rich.

Battery swap is the only logical (at this point) options for quick turn around and long battery lifespan.

Yep. I know that'd been looked at at one point based on a case study I did a few years ago. I could see that working with a company-owned truck fleet, but a lot of challenges trying to get consumers on board with the idea.

Hydrogen-fuel-cell electric has the quick-refuel problem "solved" -- but again we're back to infrastructure support and consumer perception / adoption.

Paid $1.65/gal for regular yesterday at Sam's club. Haven't seen that price for a LONG time. We'd been easing down toward $2.10 or so, but that was a big jump.

    That's awesome prices!
I read that we'll see under 99 cent a gallon gas.... That's crazy but I love it.
The bad part of it is the cheap crude prices will lower the output of crude from fracking, which is how US became number 1 exporter of oil, due to the fracking boom after regulations were pulled back to allow it.
But man I'm old enough to where I'm tired of always being concerned for the common good. NOBODY has my well being and my 'good' on their concerns, despite the BS spewed all over.
So I'll take that 99 cent gas that's coming and take care of my own well being and good with road trips and fishing along the way:cool::rofl:
