So I just went in the garage and adjusted my coilovers. I’m now sitting at 2.5” of lift from 2.25”. I still have rubbing on driver tire when backing up AND tire is turned to the left. So I’ll def need another alignment

if your LCA’s cams are maxed out for caster, then you’ll either need a cmc or try spc uca’s where you can adjust the caster via the spc uca’s adjustable ball joint. With the spc uca’s you can move the upper ball joint to gain some clearance to your cab mount....but you more than likely will loose some caster in the process. If you are dead set in not getting your cab mount chopped and want to keep your 285’s, then this is probably your best option.

Read at least the first page of this link.

It explains how decreasing the caster via the spc uca’s adjustable ball joint will move your wheel forward and give you more clearance. One of the big reasons people purchase spc uca’s is to have the ability to do this.
What icon told you is correct.

Thanks for the info. I’ve read through almost all of that thread and posted over there with those guys too.
AccuTune is also working with me. I just sent them all my specs. They say that it shouldn’t be rubbing with all the gear I have because they use the same gear on some of their Taco builds. I’m hoping to hear back from them early next week before I go in for another alignment at a different shop.

I got my 886s installed and took the truck to the offroad shop to have it aligned.

It seems worse now. At highway speeds I’m getting a front end vibration and it’s slightly pulling to the right. The shop was closed when I picked it up. They didn’t even provide me with an alignment spec.

Why is it so difficult to get a proper alignment?

    Dude, I know, right?
I get the best alignments when it’s done by hand. Those alignment machines are usually not calibrated because that costs a bunch of money for them

That’s where I’m at. I’m about ready to learn to align myself. This is getting frustrating. I installed the UCAs to get a better alignment and now I’m worse off than before. Not to mention I’m into alignments for nearly 200!

Thats why I’m going to the adjustable SPC UCAs.

Seems like this conversation is more or less dead, but thought it might be helpful to add the tech notes from Icon’s installation manual as it may explain a lot of the confusion.

Basically, push the wheel as far forward as possible using the LCA adjustment, then bring the ball joint on the UCA back (towards firewall) to adjust to proper caster angle.

And I believe a lot of the aftermarket UCAs are set to add caster (mover wheel closer to firewall) by design to compensate for the LCAs being moved forward.

    Hope this helps.

I had a slight rub on the cab mount and after an alignment with Caster at 4.4/4.5, now theres a good bit of room and no rubbing anywhere else.

It was an old school manual alignment, so no spec sheet. JBA UCA 6112/5160 6/5.
