Compatible tire sizes with 17 TRD PRO 4Runner Wheels

I need some clarification on whether BFG KO2 at 285/70/17 will fit the 4runner trd pro wheels safely.

Reason I ask is because the wheels are 7" wide while the 285's require a 7.5"-9" wide wheel. But I've seen some people running these sizes anyway. Some say it's not recommended..but no one can really explain to me why lol

 

A guy I work with has been running that set up on his FJ. And he hasn't had any issues, outside the normal rub mods needed for that size tire.

 

I’ve run 285’s on every 7” wide Tacoma wheel I’ve had. Having a set of 285/75r17’s installed on 4R Pro wheels right now.

 

How is that working for you? What lift and mods to accommodate that size? I plan on using the same wheels as you. I keep searching for this size and would prefer this size if possible instead of the 285/70/17.

those look like LT285/70R17s and I see you have an aftermarket control arm. I was trying to go LT285/75r17s without needing an aftermarket control arm for now.

 

Depending on your lift you might need ucas to get it aligned right

minor plastic trimming, alignment with caster as far forward as spec allows for stock UCA’s, and a body mount chop.

lifted on OME 887’s, nitrochargers front and rear, Dakar Medium leaf pack. Spidertrax.

didn’t need plastic trimming or body mount chop with 285/75R16’s on the original wheels.
