3rd Gen HID vs LED vs Halogen H11 projector headlights

Headlight season is coming to an end here in Alaska. It’s no longer dark on my morning drive in to town and is broad daylight on my drive home.


I’ve had the H9’s in for about 26 weeks now, and I drive 2-5 hours a day depending on my sales route, so I have a minimum of 250 hours on the bulbs with 5-20 stops per day, and they are still going strong. I’ll be leaving them in all summer, and when one pops I’ll send them to @crashnburn80 for EOL testing (if he’s interested) so we can see how they’ve degraded over time.

 

Don't think I've ever cared about getting my bulbs to consume less power.

LED's are garbage. Even the super expensive $1200 Morimoto XB LED enclosures barely perform better than a $30 halogen.

Your best option is going to be a bi-xenon HID retrofit If youre looking to spend the kind of money for the Morimoto XBs. Theres a guy on here who sells the retrofits with lots of different custom options. Way better return for your money than the morimotos, but if your truck needs lipstick, hey go with the Morimotos or any plug and play ebay LED.

 

Thank you for the summary. Glad I asked. I am about functionality, not trendy B.S., although, I like things that look good to me. Lights, not so much. If they are better functionally, ie; better light, then worth it to an extent.

 

Well if you only want to spend a couple bucks go with one of the halogens listed. Im currently running H9s and am happy with them.

If you want the best and can justify $1000ish get the retrofits.

So I have had Hella H9s in since day one. Highs and lows.
What's the best H9 bulb out now.

 

Still the standard Phillips H9. Still $8 each on Amazon.

 

@crashnburn80 , aren't the Hella H9s still a better bulb than the Phillips. The ones I bought before were from Rally Lights...

 

Just put these in the other day and I am very happy with the upgrade. Also surprised by how much of a difference I noticed.

 

I asked the same question and @crashnburn80 told me that the Hella bulbs had false marketing claims stating that they were +30 and that they are actually just a standard H9 bulb.

 

That is correct. You’ll notice Rallylights has ‘fixed’ their websites false claim. The Philips H9s are better.

 

Another benifit of H9s no one is talking about is they they run hot enough to sterilize the lens of the truck.
