I’ve got some route ideas in mind. Who’s interested in an Pittsburgh/SW Pennsylvania overland/camping trip?!

I do realize there’s a Pittsburgh meet thread and other threads. But this thread is about camping , 4 wheeling, trail rides and beer.

I do a lot of exploring and camping throughout the state, but usually only during the warmer months. My most recent trip was out to Forbes State Forest to gather some spring water and breathe the air. I love it out there!
I had a lot of fun camping out of the back of my Taco last summer, but I am limited as to where I can go since it's only 2WD. :ballchain:

I’m ready if anyone wants to meet over by Connellsville, PA. I’m also able to go other places. I always love to go wheeling. Camping also, but I’ve been having a hard time finding a legit good place to camp that’s not illegal I’m here. I don’t like “campgrounds”. I like to camp away from people.

On my dual sport I’ve done a lot of camping in West Virginia. Lots of legal places without people. Especially around Canaan, Davis, Laurel Fork Wilderness etc.

@disconnected do you have a GPX file for the Trans West Virginia trial?

On another note; i believe the MABDR would be 2 wheel friendly. - i think?

I never thought about checking out the WV laws on camping.

Anyone game to do some small wheeling trips an hour south of Pittsburgh anytime soon? I know some quick loops that would only take an hour or so, and also have other places I haven’t fully explored because I was the sole truck and worried about recovery; I didn’t want to go on my own. It’s Carona acceptable if we are in our own vehicles!

Here’s the places I have in mind:

-Hardy Hill Road going from Dunbar, PA to Mt. Braddock, PA is a great beginner-intermediate loop easy for stock trucks. It’s mostly logging trails, and also has a great area to take a break deep in the woods with huge rock formations. There are a couple turn offs from this road that escalate more to an intermediate/expert level, still seeming capable for a stock truck. These are the side roads I haven’t travelled yet.

Casperas mountain in Connellsville is a popular run. I know my way up to the top, which is easy. Once up there, there are a bunch of side shoots that I’d like to explore.

These places are easily a half a day or less to a full whole day depending on how much time you want to take. The Hardy Hill rd is less than 1.5 hours if you do a straight run. I’m getting new tires tomorrow and would love to get them broken in.

@PlatinumCloud does Saturday 3/21 at 12:30 PM meeting at the Martin’s Food parking lot on Vanderbilt Rd in Connellsville, PA work?

It gives us a chance to eat and get ready.

TWVA gets pretty tight. Definitely would report back with damage.

I’m still on. It’s still acceptable to do what we’re doing. The world still goes on. We just have to be smart and socially distant. It’ll be my wife, myself, and probably one of our dogs.

I’m always wheeling anywhere whenever possible. Let me know a couple days in advance and I can usually go.
