Permanently Disable Pre-Collision (and DRCC)

This has come up a few times with people wanting to have these systems disabled, and so I just wanted to advise that Toyota USA has released a bulletin for customers wanting to disable PCS/DRCC and new software to permanently disable the PCS and DRCC portions of the TSS system for the 2018+ Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia and 4Runner has been released.

Important: While PCS is deactivated, the PCS warning light will be displayed in the instrument cluster and a message will be displayed on the multi information display.

I reckon it will be up to the dealer to determine what they'll charge to do this. Haven't seen anything for Canada yet.

Wow, would tire/wheel size make that much of a difference?

Maybe they should disable it if you tow or put heavy goods in the bed thus changing the height of the vehicle...

 

They are just covering their ass. These safety senses are calibrated, and when we change everything, they may not work as expected.

 

Owner has to give permission for them to disable the system. Many have expressed interest in doing so.

 

So I'm guessing you're getting false alerts if your rig height is significantly different to stock?

I wander if the pro is calibrated differently to all of the other models?

 

Does TSS auto calibrate or can you initiate it after adding new wheel/tyre combo for example?

 

If your truck is new, it seems as if it is in a learning mode. Can’t confirm this. If you have already had truck a while, it seems as if these people have more issues. Again, can’t confirm, just based on what I’ve read. Dealer’s can calibrate, though.

 

Pro should be calibrated differently.

 

There are various calibrations. TRD Pro has a different sensor and different calibration.

So, they can, or can’t recalibrate them? Or, are they just saying you can’t put new tires on your truck. Lol. Covering ass, liability.

 

I get false alerts at stock haha. A few times it alerted me to brake with nothing in front of the truck.

 

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is one of our favorite features on both my 2019 SR5 Tacoma, and my wife's 2018 Camry XLE. We wouldn't want to disable it on either vehicle.

Definitely don't want mine disabled. Saved the ass-end of my Tacoma a couple weeks ago while driving on I-81. My alarm went off, causing me to immediately look into my mirror seeing an un-maned Chevy pickup veering from their lane to the left of me into my lane/Tacoma. I hit my horn and jammed the accelerator to the floor allowing me to pull ahead and avoid an accident.

Apparently, the guy's cell phone or something must have slide off the seat onto the passenger side floor and he reached to the floor to pick it up. This resulted in my not seeing a driver behind the wheel, but only one hand on the steering wheel.

 

Additional warning:

After completion of this modification, you will be obligated to post in every thread discussing radar and TCC, DRCC, and PCS that you are thankful that your truck does not have all this new fangled nanny shit. See 16-17 third gen, and any previous gen owners for examples.

 

That's the part that stood out to me as odd. Permanently disabled? Is the procedure to smash the radar with a hammer or something?

 

Sounds like good news to me. I don't have much faith in these systems as it is. I can only imagine what happens as these systems fail as the new vehicle ages. I bet a lot of people inquire about disabling the system when looking for a new vehicle.

 

In the first 3 or 4 months of owning mine I had a few false warnings occur. After owning it now for a year and a half, it seems to work as advertised.
