I was out looking for Black Friday deals and came across Race Relations Wheels hidden winch mount. I've never seen anything like this before but it does interest me. Any 3rd Gen owners have one? I'm wondering how it mounts as it doesn't seem to have any brackets to mount to the fore-aft main frame rails, which I thought was a must for a winch. However, having never owned a winch I'm probably wrong about that. Also, would I be losing any ground clearance with this?

Any happy owners out there who can chime in?

    Thanks.

Looks like it mounts in place of the crush bumper. Probably no clearance lost. Looks a *little* thin on plate thickness to me, but what do I know??? Like you, haven’t had a winch either.

I did install a winch tray in my FJ but never got to the winch part... that tray seemed a bit thicker.

Wish this had more traction.. I have questions too. 20#s seems very light duty for a winch mount. Id love to hear what peeps here using them have found... @geauxtaco @Rywi028 I tagged a couple folks I saw mention they had one or were getting one. Maybe they can let us know.

Yeah at least the SDHQ mount is more like a cradle.

Right. It's always better to be over built than under built. The engineering is my biggest concern, then craftsmanship, then weight. The 20#s is very eye catching, but i would love to hear what folks who have this have seen in the field.

Don't buy one. Just got mine and it's severely lacking in welds. CNC cut and a nice powder coat but it's held together with around ten 2-3in beads. It's for looks at best. Until they weld the whole thing properly I wouldn't trust it to not rip the front of your truck off under load.IMG_4898.jpg IMG_4897.jpg
