Can someone please tell me is it normal for the 3rd brake light to have a gap at the bottom. Tight seal against the cab at the top and a gap at the bottom. Pic for reference.20200317_143730.jpg

Mine wasn’t like that when I removed it and installed Meso’s version. A small difference wouldn’t be much of a problem, but yours looks like a huge gap. When you see how thin the OEM foam gasket is, I’d say you don’t have a seal and could easily get water in their if it rains upwards. But probably don’t have much to worry about unless wind turbulence forces water up their while driving.

Yeah the foam gasket is pretty thin. The light should be in intimate contact with the body...that looks like a leak waiting to happen.

They had bad problems with leaks for a while, might as well remove and fix/pre-fix yours to prevent it.

Mine looks like that. No leaks in the few years I have owned it. The foam gasket keeps It from lying completely flat.

I was just doing a search for leaking cab and came across this thread. I have quite the leak problem in my 2016 double cab. Heavy rains, like the huge downpour happening now in Ohio, I Find My back seats are nearly soaked and evidence of water in multiple areas. Anyone have a link to a thread addressing this?

Is it just me or do the double cabs have more leaks from the third brake light when compared to the access cab? Just wondering because my access cab door seals are leaking a small amount of water but not the third brake light.

I think the access cab has a different style third brake light if I am not mistaken.

Pretty sure they're smaller. Maybe the smaller span puts more pressure on center of the light, sealing the foam better.

Bead of clear RTV silicone sealant and mine is staying dry now. $100 for the replacement light and it looks to be a real pain to replace.

This is the EASY FIX! Just buy a tube of silicone (like this guy above) and run a bead around your light, use your finger to smooth it, then NO leak. Less tha $5. Less than 30 minutes.

I wonder if I should put some butyl tape as a preventative measure.

    Silicone definitely works...

It’s pathetic you have to do that on a vehicle this expensive.

Quick fix yes. Would be bitching at dealer because the damage can be extensive, they know it, and you will likely find a paper backing stuck to one side of the seal.

It will start leaking through the top and into the rear of your cab, happened to me. I piped it with clear silicone around the entire light, seems to be working good
