Hey guys. I am trying to find a place I can go camp while the social distancing is going on. All of the camp sites and parks are closed with the exception of day use. I also have a two wheel drive and have never driven the Rubicon in any form or capacity so that seems like a dangerous idea. I am in the Solano County area so any ideas would be appreciated. Really trying to get away from everyone for a bit.

Looks like you don't have to worry about that any time soon.

Do you have any BLM or Forestry Service land nearby? Usually you can dispersed camp for free for up to fourteen days

I promise to isolate myself. Yeah we have pretty great camping out here but unfortunately a lot of the places are state run parks

BLM land is still good but I had read something saying the forestry service is asking that people don't camp on that land until this has lifted. I am readily considering BLM at this time

Not sure about your area but down here in the High Desert it looks any other typical Friday with alot of RV's towing trailers out into the Mojave Desert

Care to impart any advice to a person who has never desert camped before?

Nothing different than what you would bring to a SVRA.
Things can get windy, it will be cold at night this time of year. Bring water and enough firewood. A good GPS too.
    cell service my be spotty.

If you're looking to not see any neighbors, that is the place to go.

It is my favorite and I usually head out alone to 'un-plug'

Yep this time of year temps are low 60° to 80° temps with night time temps just above freezing and windy

That photo was the first night of my last camping trip out to the desert during Thanksgiving. This photo is from the next day....things change quickly.

Depending on where you go, the desert can hold some pretty nefarious characters. So, bring something you can use to 'target shoot'.

The two legged types although a group of javalinas running by your camp will get your attention too.

Bring water, bring more water. Especially when you're not experienced you'll use a lot more than you think you will. It's not just the heat that dehydrates you, the wind contributes as well. A bottle of Anti Monkey Butt Powder (or whatever brand you like- I like the AMB because it has calamine in it too) can be a God-send.
