I have a single 15watt pod I'd like to add as a reverse light as the tint on the windows and my camper make it hard to see. Im wondering if 15 watts is too much to splice into the stock reverse lights, or if it is if it's possible to take it to the 7pin trailer harness thanks for any help

We bought a trailer harness and wired them up on my buddies truck to the reverse pin output. Worked great. Has them mounted on his Salter for when he is out blowing and backing up across lots

Im thinking of splicing into the wire behind the trailer connector rather than plugging into it, I'm just curious how much amperage that harness can handle

Put some decent bulbs in it and see if you still need more light. Deauto LEDs or HIRs.

It would be a bit of a pain, but, you could get a water proof relay and mount it back there. Use the reverse from the trailer harness as a trigger wire and run a new lead (with inline fuse) from the battery and use that to power the light

So, it's some aftermarket light with non replaceable reverse light bulbs?

FWIW, I have OEM tail lights with Deauto LED reverse lights and there's plenty of light when in reverse.

I'd go this route. Really simple to wire and no need to worry about overloading the existing wires since the draw will be on the new wire from the battery.

Assuming the 7 way trailer connector is made to power 2 whatever reverse lights on a trailer, 15 watts is nothing, and if you already have LED reverse lights in the tail lights, a 15 watt pod is really nothing.

My vote...wire it right to the stock circuit. No relay needed for that small of draw. You are hovering at 1 amp more.

Best place is to unplug the trailer connector and tap in on the short harness between the trailer plug and where it goes to the frame rail connector location.

You can put it on the bench, solder or splice it, then dress it with tape and jam it back in there without F'n with the vehicle harness itself.

Aux back up lights, Bed lights, Re-located trailer plug, Good dooby, a.k.a. jumper cable mod, Heated seats, back up camera,
    That's quite a list.

As for the light, it's just over an amp load on the circuit. As @caribe makaira pointed out, the circuit feeding the back up lights already has a lot of stuff on it.

I installed these backup bulbs. Problem solved.

This really eliminates the need to hack up a bumper to mount pods:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/gy6-35-hir-921-reverse-light-upgrade-vs-high-power-leds.474996/

But in short an additional 15w is fine on the stock circuit. The stock reverse lights draw 38w (18w x 2), my HIRs are drawing 70w (35w x 2). Note that the circuit is shared with the tow circuit, so anything you add reduces the capacity of what is available to the trailer should you tow one.
