I'm camping out at my girlfriends place in Lincoln Park. My family is staying at home in the burbs and my mom is high risk so I came here so I can go shop for the family and deliver stuff at the front door without having to worry about getting anyone sick at home. Sucks man.

Yea not me. I hate people. Illinois is like a prison camp (pretty soon literally) for me. Evreytime I get close to escaping the warden kicks my ass right back off the edge of the fence and back in. I came close 5times to leaving since being of working age.

I say people who legit love it here have never left the state.

I will take here over Houston, f that hell hole.

After seeing this unfold, I know now for certain I will be narrowing my list when I sit for my license where to practice come December. Been looking at Montana, AZ, TN. Never been a city guy, grew up in the PA fields.

its still a relatively small country redneck hick town
things seem to be changing though, especially traffic
true slums are still at a minimum here fwiw
more like Des Moines than KC

If you think Omaha, a city with a population around half a million is a small redneck hick town you have never actually experienced one.

my relatives live in rural KS and MO
just because there is a lot of people does not necessarily mean its a big culturally diverse place is all i am saying!
they tried to start up an urban soul music radio station here in the 90s and it fell through bad
but yet there were at one time 3 country & western heehaw stations which lead me to the redneck labeling thing  and i can only take so much heehaw and Kornfield Kounty

The only saving grace is the food, its great. I will say, I think it will go away soon, the car registration fees aren't too bad when you compare to some other surrounding states with their BS car property taxes. Oh and no "safety" inspections for non commercial vehicles. We do have emissions but that's easy to pass in a modern vehicle.

Only thing I hate about Chicago are the taxes. I definitely like the suburbs better than the city but I work downtown and my girlfriend does too so for now we're in Lincoln Park which still has a neighborhood feel. She's from Des Moines. Went to spend thanksgiving there with her family- not a bad place. Too many family and friends here for me to pack up and leave though.

Come retirement, I’m off to tenn, az, or in around Louisville. I’d love Montana, Wyoming , or Idaho but we’ll see. IL. corruption and property taxes are insane. The vehicle fees and inspection standards aren’t too bad compared to some others as stated by slander. The food and white Sox are all we got.

I left Chicago nearly 18 years ago. Still miss the food, the lake, the sports teams and the hot summer nights. Aside from that not much. Its a great place to go back to visit, although its been nearly 3 years now that i think about it. Guess I'm due!

I will be here until I retire in many many many years... but I will say, one thing people forget about is how awesome it is to have 2 major airports super super close! I am 40 mins from O'hare and Midway.
