New to this thread, did anyone have trouble putting the genuine garnish nuts on the genuine garnish?

I had tough time working them down, and didn’t get all the way down since there’s a very small amount of play in the garnish.

did anyone use a push tool or anything like that?

I know the Pro grill comes with either grey or black lettering, but does anyone know which Toyota gray it matches or is closest to? Cement? MGM? Silver? My truck is MGM, so I'd get the grey if it's that particular gray, but otherwise I'd stick with black.

Also, why is the OEM garnish so damn expensive? It's just a pc of plastic. Just curious if anyone knows a legit reason. Is Toyota trying to discourage this mod?

To speak for the OP as I have his grille, fits pretty perfectly.

Yes they are. At the end of the day, there isn't much different between a Pro and Offroad aside from shocks/wheels/grille for $9k.

I don't know officially, but my assumption is that the garnish is made of a special kind of plastic that allows the TSS sensor, which is mounted directly behind the garnish, to send/receive signals properly.

I don’t think it is made of anything special. I saw a guy on YouTube make one out of a music CD case.

I would say Toyota uses something in between silver sky and MGM, ours are probably closer to a cement just because they aren't very sparkly.
As far as the pricing goes for the OEM... you nailed it, its just Toyota trying to keep the "special" about the pros. Nothing more.

the TSS uses millimeter-wave radar, so the garnish is undoubtedly made out of a special material (its called a radome). the material is designed to be invisible to the radar. you may be able to get away with using a normal plastic, but this will impede the radar signal to some extent.

i work in automotive mmwave radar, we design sensors that are supplied to several different OEMs for all different types of purposes. in the next 10 years you will start seeing these radars pop up all over cars for many different use cases such as in cabin monitoring, blind spot monitoring, ADAS systems, kick to open, etc.

it is a radome for the TSS millimeter-wave radar sensor.

I bought a grill one for you a while back, great quality. Walked outside today at lunch and someone had backed into me so now I need a new one.
I'll order as soon as you have them in.

Also hoping thetacogarage restocks soon, I'm having terrible luck with garnishes. The one I bought from toyotaproshop hardly ever worked. The grill seems fine but I must have got a dud garnish. Just had a new one delivered from Amazon that doesn't even fit without trimming it some, so I'll be returning that asap. Besides thetacogarage, what are some shops out there that have a working garnish?

Hey man, so from what I understand the recall if for 2018 and 2019 correct? I have been looking for a pro grill for my 2020 for a while now. Do you know of a dealer that will sell the grill. I would prefer OEM because I want to put a front camera on as well. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks man
