I was out shopping for tonneau covers today and I have basically narrowed it down to three covers:

    Pricing is in Canadian dollars

    $1179 installed- Bakflip MX4 -https://bakindustries.com/bakflip-mx4/2019/toyota/tacoma
    $1315 +$88 installation fee - Undercover ultra flex - https://undercoverinfo.com/undercover-ultra-flex/2019/toyota/tacoma
    $1368 +$88 installation fee - Undercover armor flex - https://undercoverinfo.com/undercover-armorflex/2019/toyota/tacoma

I like the MX4 the best but the demo model I saw had a lot of scratches on the matte black panels, and scratched super easy just with my fingernails let alone setting any tools or anything on it. Those of you with it I am asking are you noticing easy scratching? I don't want to baby the thing, or was it just a poorly painted demo model?

The other ones are considerably more expensive and they are all part of the "Truck Hero Company" meaning probably manufactured with the same or similar parts and standards. I am basically asking for anyone's experience with these and/or their opinions. I am perfectly happy with the look of the MX4 but the scratching would drive me crazy and if I have to pay more to avoid it I will.

P.S. if there are options I am missing let me know but a complete tri fold hard cover is a must, I want whole bed access without removing the cover.

Thanks for answering! Yeah I’m thinking I will go with the Armor flex. Not like I’m going to beat the crap out of the thing but I don’t want to be worried about setting tools on it and scratching it super easy.

I've got a fibermax, it's great no scratches on it. I bought it used off of someone on here for 450 I think, so it's about 2 years old now, and working great!

I own an MX4 and I can confirm that it scratches very easily when folded up. I have some rather large scratches where it rests on itself. I am very disappointed because it was so expensive and it looks so bad with bright silver aluminum scratches on the black cover. I contacted customer support about a fix and they sent me a black paint pen from hobby lobby that isn't even a color match. It stands out like a sore thumb. I'd recommend a different cover with a more scratch resistant material. I will say it works very well in keeping things dry and the low profile looks good, but the quality leaves MUCH to be desired for the price tag.

Yeah I was worried so I decided to go with an undercover armorflex. Will post back in a few months hopefully with how scratch resistant it is

So, now that you're probably had the armor flex installed, how has it been? Also, how well does it keep out water?

I have been very happy with it, haven’t really had an issue with much water getting in. Except a little bit on the back corners but it’s probably more related to where the tailgate joins. It is scratch free so far but I haven’t really been rough with it. I also haven’t really tried to be nice to it either, if I have something heavy or awkward I put it on top and then open my tailgate.

That's great. I was leaning towards the MX4, but I don't want to scratch the heck out of it. We can always put a gasket around the tailgate area.

When you fold it up and then tilt it up, it covers the 3rd brake light, doesn't it? Not a huge issue. I figure it won't be propped up fully open like that too often, and there are still visible brake lights.

Yes it does, my installer put on some foam on one of the sections so that when it rests against the brake light it doesn’t scratch or crack it, and when you driving it won’t touch the light lens because you’ll have the supports on there. Totally happy with my choice as the MX4 demo models I saw were so easy to scratch with just a fingernail. Maybe it would have buffed out, I’m not sure but reviews I saw said that those ones scratched easy. Like I said, I’m not intentionally rough on mine, but I didn’t want to have to baby it either

So I have been going back and forth on either MX4 or Armor Flex. Has the leaking improved with time?

No but I think either would be the same, like I said I think it’s from the tailgate sides cause it’s always just at the back corners, just get some tailgate seals
