Two of my friend's dogs have come from there as well and seem to have been treated very well! My dog Koda had all his shots and was neutered there and they took great care of him.

Being able to function as a no-kill shelter is more and more difficult these days. The one I worked at in high school in St. Louis is barely staying afloat.

I will be taking him there in 2 hours so I will keep you updated!

Welp, it was a whirlwind day but it finally worked out.

Started at the Greenville humane society at lunch. I was told incorrectly yesterday and they do not take strays or deserted dogs. They said I had to go to Greenville County Animal Services.

Went there and waited in line for an hour. Get up to the front, they ask where it was deserted. I told them horse pasture road, not thinking about why they were asking. They let me know they could only take dogs from Greenville county.

So I called Pickens Humane Society, and they also could not take him and we would have to work with Pickens animal services. Called them and they said they could take him. I asked if they were no-kill and they said they could really only promise he would live through the mandatory hold as he gets settled in over 2-4 weeks and then they couldn’t promise anything.

Well that wasn’t good enough, so we went to Spartanburg humane society. With some gray area in where the pup was found, they finally accepted him. Took 30 minutes with treats to get him to come out of the crate but we finally got him settled into his kennel area there.

It is going to take him awhile to trust humans again, but he never showed and aggression the whole time he was scared. He would only follow me, so I definitely have love for the sweet boy.

They said 2-4 weeks before he’ll be posted for adoption because it’ll take him awhile, so I’ll keep you guys updated.

If it works out that someone here wants him and will take good care of him, I will throw some cash in for his meals, treats, shots, etc.

Thanks for the heads up! What's funny is I was on that route a few days before they closed. We definitely had to ride up on the hill a little to avoid the part that had washed away. It was my first time there so I wasn't sure if it had always been that.

Luckily that is where you would go left instead of going right for the lake. Route to the lake should be open September 15 still :).

Well, that was a bust. Sassafras mountain project.
Trailhead is almost exactly 2 miles from holly springs.
At 3 miles in there is a red, locked gate. Dissaponting. No lake access, no camp sites, no spurs.

    Yea, it's open.
Local jeep club had a ride there while we were doing MGR.

They were climbing the camping spot in the middle of the loop at the lake.

    Possible.
Turning it around to get back out shouldnt be an issue. It's not actually a loop since they blocked access to the boat ramp a couple years ago. The left side of the loop has been blocked off as well.

Or just drive all the way up it in the middle to camp.

Coming down the other side might be an issue since it's a pretty hard left turn.

Also, the middle campground up the hump might be the only legal place to have a campfire. I know 12 or so people got ticketed a few years ago for having a fire within the required feet from the waters edge.

The yellow area is where they put some rocks to block off the area to the ramp.
The blue area is where you can drive, up into the middle of the campsite and then back down.
