The price of oil is bad for my line of work (R&D for a company specializing in the side chemicals of oil and gas) but I'm hoping as we push towards renewables it will at least stave off the inevitable for awhile. I've been on the last day of a two week notice since 2009 as a result of the post-2008 crash. It's such a weird dichotomy that want the price of oil to be high for my line of work, but low for my own personal budgeting. I handle the lab's automation stuff, mainly, so I think that makes me pseduo-important. I'm currently working from home but on-call as needed to go in and sort through any / all issues. My wife is a teacher so she's pretty safe there. I just got back the last form I needed for my refinance, so that's exciting and will cut my monthly spending down.

@Noelie84 I got the lug nuts today. Delivered in the condition described in a timely fashion. Bummer. I was fully hoping for some drama to break up the monotony.

I really want to put up a shed, tear out carpet and put a new floor in one room, change out the vanity in the bathroom, etc. I have all the time in the world to do that stuff now, but given the unpredictability of the situation, I feel I shouldn't spend money on projects like that at the moment...even though right now I feel like I have more money than usual since I'm not driving back and forth to work nearly as much.

It's looking more and more like 3 weeks will become 6 or more, so trying to pace myself on my little projects so I don't get bored is frustrating. Today I did spring maintenance on the mower--new blades, oil, filters, plugs, reinstall the deck, etc. It didn't take nearly as long as I had hoped.

Still $2.29 for regular here. North Berkshire always has significantly higher gas prices and I don't know why. I'm sure @Bridge4 can relate.

Bjs 197 down the road. There's one station at 199 the others are a hair above 2. According to GasBuddy at least.

Looks like Pittsfield has quite a few around that price. Never understood the 20-30 cent difference between there and here.

On another note, I wish something would happen about people's hoarding. We haven't really been buying more than we usually do, but for a few trips in a row now there has been no meat or paper products. At this point, we're running low--it's looking like I'll need to start taking up the vegetarian lifestyle because there are people who suddenly feel the need to buy 50 lbs of meat at a time.

which I still don’t get. Like. I think the current crop of folks has no idea what non perishable means. But also a supply chain thing too. I went by the store and get whatever I can that day. Especially if I’m running the smoker.

but it’s funny all the soups and vegetables are still full up. Frozen ribs got some of those. Frozen chicken wings did those last night.

Also random advice, you usually can’t cook or smoke frozen meats, or shouldn’t. Especially smoking/slow cooking, but a pressure cooker (I have an instant pot) is fine to do frozen. It cooks it fast enough from frozen unlike a smoker. So yeah if you can only get frozen, and have a pressure cooker, you can still let er rip!

for some reason seekonk mass is an oasis for cheap gas. Rhode Island is more expensive in general and even surrounding towns in mass are generally more expensive. Seekonk is always cheap for some reason. I’ll take it.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
How's everyone doing with all this? I hope this thing doesn't effect any of you or your loved ones (but I know it will).
I've got to tell you I'm starting to get pretty upset because I don't think a lot of people are taking this seriously. As many of you know my wife works at Walmart in the electronics department. She explained that the last few days people have swarmed to her store like it's black Friday. They are comming in with their entire families. She said at one point she had about 50 people just her department alone!

For Christ sakes people, your supposed to stay home except for essential supplies!!! I don't think getting a new large screen TV is essential!

    Sorry for the rant!

Awe man sorry to hear your wife is dealing with that. I hope she stays safe. Over the past 9 days I have gone out twice to grab some small things here and there for food. Also been out to walk the dogs almost everyday but I have pretty much have no contact with people. I see so many people out, like you said, getting mindless stuff. Also doesn't make sense to me financially either. If so many people will most likely lose their jobs. But I dont know... maybe they are in a better financial/job security situation than I am... I feel like my wife and I are doing our part by staying home and rarely going out for anything except to walk the dogs. It sucks we will have to be forced to be on lock down for people to finally get the picture.

My SIL works at a nice super market in a town near by and has been filled all day with families, most complaining the smoothie bar is closed and demanding to know why. Apparently complying with the health recommendations isn't good enough.:frusty:

She said they are mostly from NY...

Totally agree. So far I’ve been working everyday even though all construction is grinding to a halt in Boston. And I’ve got to say it’s unbelievable the amount of people out and in groups. People just don’t get it and it going to prolong this from going away. I worked in Waltham yesterday and there’s a Costco on Bear Hill Rd. When they opened it was like the end of the world was looming. Just don’t get what is wrong with people.

Stupidity reigns, sadly. I'm guilty of the going out thing but most times it's just for a quick drive because I've been cooped up, not stopping anywhere.

    Fuel is 1.86 in Whitman

I've been chatting to my friend in China. Told her this morning we had just under 20,000 cases of Corona virus. By lunch time the number was up to 25,000. We've passed 3 countries in a day for number of infected. Only China and Italy have more cases.

I can't speak for Italy, but China took this seriously. They stayed in, going out only for essential items.

Italy just took this seriously when they went in lock down for the whole country. We will have to do the same.

    1) we are way bigger than Italy. And most the other countries dealing with this, I feel like it’s hard to judge us against a single one. More like the entire EU.
    2) I watched videos of Chinese being welded Into their apartments. That’s one way to insure self control
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rtpki8fBQVs

    3) I’d like to know if this stuff is for real, it’s hard to judge even with videos, timelines etc... this could be from 5 years ago for all I know.
