Dobinsons 2016-2023 Taco Suspension Options

Well took a trip down to MainLine Overland yesterday and picked up their GTS system (dobinson built) John there was awesome to deal with, can’t wait to get it all installed! Will post specs and pics once installed.

 

Just added the dobinson 220 with 314 spring and 1/4 inch spacers each side also had Dakar med leafs installed

 

Nice! How much lift over stock did you get in the front?

 

Unfortunately mine squeak worse than an excited dog chewing his first ever squeaky toy. Hoping removing the leafs and bushing and hand greasing everything helps then greasing again while on truck because I’ve greased them and drive for few days and greased then drive for few days and repeated a few times still squeak like mad.

Must not have been done right to start with No one else has that problem

 

Yes. Dobinsons springs have that. If the poly bushings aren't greased right during install then they can squeak

 

I was going for 3 but actually don’t know. From what I read 220 with 314 springs would give about 2 3/4 -3. But settle to about 2 1/2. Adding the 1/4 spacer from head strong gave me a guaranteed 1/2 lift in addition to the possible 2 1/2 lift after settling. If I get that’s ok. I also added spc ucas. The ecgs bushing was installed also and diff drop and carrier bearing spacer added. I had them install 285/70/17 ko2 there no rubbing at all

I only say the shims from experience. My dad and I rebuilt a leaf pack on my 81 Blazer when I was in high school, and we both dismissed those shims and tossed them aside. Rebuilt the leaf pack and installed. But the moment I hit the end of the driveway and heard the squeal of 12,000 penguins during mating season, I knew exactly what those shims were for. Pulled back in to the driveway to put them back in

 

No shims between leaf springs that I’m aware of. Either way not a huge deal. Any leaf pack can be fixed with enough time and labor. I’ve gotta disassemble the rear whenever I get the shims to fix drive line angles also for vibration probs.

 

What struts and spring set up did you get

 

Front IMS59-50220 adjustable height front monotube struts arrived in stock today!! Also the new low height rear lift blocks too, just waiting for photos of that kit so I can post it up.

Decided to put the truck to good use as a truck and test out the load carrying capacity. All total it was 12 80lb bags of concrete, 12 4x4x8ft pressure treated, 22 2x4x8ft pressure treated, 145 cedar fence boards, 5 gallons of wood sealer, 1 gallon of paint, 7lbs of screws, full tank of fuel, my 6 year old and my fat self at 240lbs driving. The truck drove great. Didn’t seem to be bothered by the extra weight. Had some squat but was otherwise ok. Super happy with the dobinsons 3” MRR HD with the heavy leaf springs.

 

That roof rack doesn't look too happy though

 

Probably did test how much that could hold. pretty happy with how it held up. That is the furthest back cross bar on the rack and was holding a lot of the weight.

 

The new rear lift blocks have just arrived. These lift 30mm (1.2") over stock for the rear. Some people were saying that the 2" rear lift blocks were too much, so Dobinsons have created a new lower height quick ride option.

Question, if i go heavy on the springs because I plan to add some more weight up front when money allows, will i have too much lift and need extended brake lines? I plan on getting the UCA’s just to be safe.
Already have skids, sliders on the way, and a camper shell about 420lb all together but stock front end

 

I have the heavy duty springs no added weight in rear. Zero issues with brake lines other than the retaining clip won’t mount.

 

It depends what final height you want to be at and what weight the front bumper is when it's added. Brake lines aren't an issue on the front. With UCA's you'll be able to go to 3.5" lift and still be ok. Then add a bumper and go down to 3" if that's the sort of route you're taking about.
