The thing I find misleading about an average death rate is that its just an aggregate number that has little to no bearing on what an individual might experience should they get the virus. How your body reacts, how quickly you get care, how good the care is, all these things are wrapped up and averaged across the population into that little number and can vary wildly from case to case.

I just saw and read this whole thread. As a dad of a daughter soon to be 7, I can only imagine the heartbreak that you've been thru. But, as it appears, your daughter and wife and just about out of the woods with this whole episode. BTW - your daughter is adorable.

    Hell ya ! Awesome news.

ya here in San Diego county (as of a few days ago) the “drive thru testing “ was still not for the general public. It seemed to be reserved for healthcare workers. Testing would be done at your local clinic or ER?

my brother and I both work in Biotech. I work as an analytical chemist and he does bioinformatics (specifically genomic work + sequencing). At my work , and in many biotech labs / school labs across SD and the world, sequencing this virus RNA isn’t that hard. If you were to order the primers it would be a few hours of taking the sample ,extracting the rna, amplifying, and sequencing it to get a positive test. The sequence is all over internet genomic data bases. I think another useful testing tool would be testing healthy people for the antibodies just to see who has had it and is fully recovered “immune”. By doing these tests on 1000s of random People (with and without illness) a clear picture would emerge here for true infection rates, true death rates, and how long it has been here in California . This would not require millions of dollars and a bunch of government. Like I said common off the shelf protocols like extraction , PCR .sequencing and proteomics (for antibody detection) can be used which are in almost every biotech lab / university.

You and your girl still doing good? I know you mentioned here or in another thread that you were worried about her pre-existing conditions with the virus.

Hope you guys are doing well

This is why people should pay close attention at testing requirements and checking out health dept websites. It’s only a matter of time before it’s readily available to everyone. Testing protocols are changing on a daily basis. In our area our goal is to have test rates equal to that of more successful countries as S. Korea and Germany. So far no outbreak. So folks, just because you can’t get tested today doesn’t mean that tomorrow 45-min testing w/ results won’t be available to you.
