I just finished a 1970 SS396 Chevelle for a customer . EFI ,hydraulic clutch , complete rewire and body mounts along with rebuilding his cowl induction hood .(the greatest placebo effect ever !!!). As I finished up I found that with the manifold used that the rubber trim for the air cleaner wouldn't allow the hood to close … So I tell the owner we need a different intake . OH HELL NO ! I might loose 20 hp !

Pretty sure throttle body spacers are a waste of money on fuel injected engines

I like the edelbrock dual plane high rise intake. You get the low end torque, with the higher RPM HP from the high rise. And I can still close my hood.

With intake manifolds, you get more torque out of a flat intake (the old torquer edelbrocks were super flat) and higher HP with a high rise. Your basically just shifting the power curve around, or the areas under the dyno curve if you will. I'm just not sure how that would translate with a throttle body, but if your MPG changes, something has definitely changed.

I just with there was a tune so that my powerband would hit at like 2800 rpm. Now i can feel the timing or whatever kick in at 3500 rpms, but for driveability getting that power a little sooner would be great.

    This.

It might make your engine make a cool hissing sound when you accelerate, but that's about it.

My 4 banger got roughly 1 MPG on the nose from it. This is from multiple tanks run with it on, then off, then back on again, and back off once more to get as best of a true A/B scientific comparison as I could.

I still left it off anyways because how else are the dudebros supposed to admire my RCI skids???

Regarding the TB spacer, total snake oil. I doubt it would even make a whoosh-y noise. A port spacer, on the other hand, might actually do something. The length of intake and exhaust runners (the point where it is a passage only feeding its respective cylinder) will shift your powerband around, longer for lower end torque, shorter for higher end power. It's why Mazda and Ford used to do that weird butterfly port thing where the intake would flip back and forth between short runner and long runner.

It's why the Taurus SHO motor looked like a tangle of spaghetti:

6 Cylinders, 12 runners. Nowadays though it's way simpler to just get 90% of the benefit with VVT and not over-complicate things.

I have one on my xterra. Tried to remove it but the bolts are too specific to the TB.

It makes a different induction sound compared to other 4.0 Nissans I've heard.

I would never buy one intentionally. It came with the truck, who knows if it works.

If they worked, every single auto manufacturer on the planet would be installing them on their vehicles OEM from the factory. Regardless of what aftermarket companies sell the spacers for, I can't imagine it costing any more than $20 or so to manufacture. If you really could get a horsepower and MPG gain from such a cheap, simple part then I'm sure manufacturers would be jumping all over it.

Next you're gonna tell me that all this Marvel Mystery oil I've been dumping in my engine is all for naught. Is there something magical about our engines that no one can readily tune them? This is the only car I've had that there aren't a million people offering dyno tunes or specific kits?

Also a lot of car manufacturers don't go with the maximum performance versions of their engines or the hottest tuning of the motor in order to meet fleet mpg standards or to tune an engine that is generic enough to be able to operate in a wide range of environments and with a variety of grades of fuel if that makes sense.

Adding a throttle body spacer to where only air is present will do nothing except maybe give you the sound of a blower as air pass's through it. Would be different if the engine had throttle body fuel injection.
