I'm not selling. We are all gonna be in the same boat.

ATM, I'm pretty much riding it to the bottom.

I've got skills that will be in demand. Let it ride!

    Yup.

I have no intent to stop working and worst case can ride years on what I have in cash or equivalents. What I have in the market is a many-year horizon. I’m slowly putting latent cash into the market now.

If anyone is selling now, they either need the money, which is understandable, or it’s an emotional reaction, which is the worst thing you could do. I think both of those scenarios will teach very important lessons to those who sell.

I’ve learned a big lesson too, to only buy big, quality companies. It is looking like I’ll pay big for some of my bets.

I wonder if it would be possible to assign a death toll to what we have done and are doing to our economy.
Serious question. Not downplaying the seriousness of the virus. There are consequences to preventative measures too though.

Kinda damned if you do, damned if you dont.

Also I dont think this will be a v shaped recovery due to people being out of work/getting behind on bills. I see people putting off alot of unnecessary purchasesuntil the beginning of next year due to being behind on paying for essentials and itll snowball into most every industry.
Also oil is pretty well screwed and that'll be it's own mess to add to the dumpster fire

10 years , it will be up at least a double from the lows . Worst case prediction , because of older population gone do to the virus , SS , Medicare run a surplus . Housing surplus and values go down because of supply , deficit paid down if not off . Lack of hands on skilled workers that make and do things besides sit in front of a screen and keyboard creating a resurgence of the skilled trades to produce things in the
US . This could stifle the growth of the stock market quite a lot but who knows .
Like WB has always said , over time stocks are the best place to be .

I plan to retire with dividend Blue Chips, hopefully with a dividend stream more than I need so I can handle the cuts that will happen inevitably in recessions. There’s no reason to stay out of the market while retired, just takes some planning.

How did you do it if you don’t mind me asking?

Dollar cost averaging. Regular contributions into a diversified portfolio of stocks and bonds. Some luck buying in with excess cash during market downturns. Living way below our means, buying used vehicles, etc. and telling the mortgage brokers to fuck themselves when they wanted us to spend way more than we wanted on homes.

To raise cash though (if you needed it monthly), are you selling shares? Or just taking the income from interest and dividends?

Dividend income primarily (what is this interest you speak of? Lol). I haven't sold shares yet in 4 years of retirement. It helps to have no debt and build up some cash reserves going in.

The only interest I can see myself getting involved with is a mini bond fund (one like NMZ). I haven’t started a position in it yet, but probably will when stocks get expensive again someday.

Don’t take internet strangers comments/opinions personally.

    IMHO:

Market is fine for funds not needed until several years from now.

Stuff you expect to need in near term, well, you don’t want that in risky vehicles.

That’s my opinion and if that doesn’t match your strategy then so be it.

Weird to think that retirees used to rely heavily on interest income in retirement. Rates have been so low for so long we forget. They offered a special first time home buyers bond rate of about 18% for our first home in 1984. Woohoo!

Fingers crossed they pass this spending package (I just threw up in my mouth) this week as I like extravagances like food and shelter in the future!!

I may dump my REITS at the next bounce up as I have a feeling dividends are going to be hashed up. After that all I'll have is blue chips that I have owned for 20+yrs. Depends on how the news goes on meds to lessen the viral load and severity of this thing goes.

This is like a flaming dumpster of actual shit launched out of a tire fire landing into a cluster fuck of blind people. My synopsis of 2020 up until this point.
