Get the oil filters from Amazon.com. I use the K&N oil filters. They are like 10.75 each. Then the gaskets I get from the dealer for $3 each.

I talked my dealer down to $1.00 from $1.50 for the gaskets but their still too much. You can get oil drain plug gaskets at Ace Hardware for around 50 cents. Get an on-line price for the filters and tell your dealer to either come down on their price or you'll shop elsewhere... Mine was charging me $6 per filter and came down to $4.50.

Ditto. I bought several Wix oil filters on Amazon for about $6 each with free 2 day shipping.

5100's all around, fronts at 1.75". TSB leaf pack + Toytec TSB AAL
My dealer throws in 2 or 3 gaskets for free every time I stock up on Filters. Filters are usually around $4.50.

+1 i bought a little box of plastic gaskets that look like white plastic washers for 2 bucks at autozone. it came with about 5 or 6 of them. i bought it a couple of years ago and still haven't used not even half of them. i just reuse them several times.

i'm sure you'd find a leak on the pavement well ahead in time to change your oil. it's a waste of money buying one every single time. they don't cost much but considering i don't need them that frequently i just feel it's unnecessary.

Interesting. My gasket is made of fiberglass and I haven't changed it yet. 4 years of service and no leaks (knock on wood) seems to dispell the notion of a 1 use only lifespan.

I've had the quick valve on since the first oil change. you can even attach a hose to the valve before draining the oil for a more controlled " where the oil goes" oil change..

saw that. i'm gonna get the slightly cheaper valve though cuz i just wouldn't need the hose feature. the locking F-clip seems like a good investment though.
