The problem with just adding a larger screw is it's typically just a temporary fix as the next time you remove it you will most likely have to go even larger.

Installing a license bolt insert as shown in post #5 will eliminate the issue. That's what they are for.

Heck , these long drawn out threads are just another thing to do to help pass the time while you "self Quarantine"
I don't profess to tell others what to do , but I find :Tacoma world" a great escape from all of the other BAD news out there, so who cares if the threads are too long.

I removed the fugly bracket, match drilled the plate to the bracket holes, and reused the bolts from the fugly bracket.

I then formed the plate to the bumper chin and threw two more screws in the existing plate holes.

    Here's a better pic:

If we were all blessed to have the money to put steel bumpers on our trucks that would be nice.

Blessed?! Not having or having money for whatever it may be isn't about being blessed. That rests solely on your shoulders. If you decide on a job with shitty pay, you get shitty pay. If you decide on a job that pays well, you get paid well. Blessings have nothing to do with it.

That’s such a strange, monolithic thing to say, especially now with the USA’s unemployment numbers shooting up for so many sectors. Is unemployment that is tied to a pandemic or superstorm simply a “bootstrap” issue? What industry do you work in where this “solely on your shoulders” idea is always your experience? Did you not know anyone affected by the ‘07-‘08 financial crisis? (We haven’t even gotten into questions about socioeconomic mobility due to geography or ethnicity either.) We all know of people that were given hundreds of millions of dollars from their parents; I’m not sure their wealth has anything to do with their “decisions,” right?

Not a bad solution. I would put stand-offs or foam between the plate and the bumper in places of contact / potential contact so the plate won't scratch up the bumper over time.

    Thanks!

I used to do that with some drawer lining material. In the end, I don't care much about what is behind the plate if I have to use a plate.

No brainer. More parking space and saves weight.

CHP will nail you for not having a front plate. So will some city and country police departments. They won’t pull you over for it but they will definitely tack it on to a speeding or parking ticket.

No one even mentioned a pandemic. I was speaking in general terms. & those “given hundreds of millions of dollars by their parents” make up a minuscule percentage of the population. The VAST majority work, so quit reaching... Don’t want to get fired? Make yourself irreplaceable. It’s not that difficult to figure out. If you get laid off, find another job. That might mean moving. People do it often. If you feel as if you don’t get paid enough, find a better paying job. That might mean advancing your education, or even moving. Again, people do it often... No one’s going to make shit happen for you, regardless of what excuses you make not to do it yourself. You always have a choice, but you have to make it happen. Being “blessed” has nothing to do with it.

Seems your main objection is to the word “blessed”.
Some people would use the word gratitude. Is that better?

My original comment was to someone who stated, “If we were all blessed to have the money to put steel bumpers on our trucks that would be nice”. Gratitude doesn’t even fit there. So no, that’s not better. What are you talking about? Who are you? Why are you even talking to me?

Same, here have been driving Corvettes for 40 years and have never used a front plate. Do have them on my Tacomas.
