I do the same, have lost too many batteries over the winter to do otherwise. In fact, the current battery sat on the tender for 3 years while the bike was down.

You did the right thing. It's usually better to not engage people like that. Even though the "social contract" says he should be more careful (essentially not be a dick), you are much more vulnerable whenever you're out on the road on two wheels. A lot of cage drivers forget that. Don't let people bully you into make an unsafe maneuver and as soon as you have the opportunity, let them pass so they no longer pose a threat to you. The good part about that is that even though it was an odd encounter and a learning scenario for you, he probably had a chip on his shoulder for the rest of his drive. Don't give some random asshole the ability to ruin your day.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I appreciate it very much.
    :fistbump:

It was a scary situation but I did learn from it, even if the guy in the truck didn’t.

I knew a dude that had a 1.5" ring welded to his frame upright by the neck. He kept a ball-peen hammer in there to relieve people of their side mirrors. He said, "if they aren't using them, they don't need them."

That's a bit strong for me but he had a bunch of metal plates and screws in his legs and arms from accidents so he had a different POV.

I know guys that put a magnet on the center bolt cap and put steel balls on there. If some one tailgates you ypu toss one up in the air usually hitting the car behind you.To me that just angers the person, who is still behind you. If you follow them home they know you where they live.

We used to just carry miscellaneous loose nuts and bolts in our pockets. Those fall off of vehicles all the time. Sucks that it hit your windshield.

Road ragers are crazy I'd rather avoid conflict, just not worth it to me. Let them pass or speed off and GTFO.

I always drove mine around tailgate down, but that was a Ninja 500 and CBR1000, which are about 6" shorter than a sportster lengthwise.

On road rage: I have speed and maneuverability to escape. I also carry a gun for situations where I can't use speed to escape. Attacking other drivers is...foolish, at best.

Had a buddy that used to carry spark plugs on him I seen him do it multiple times to people. I learn to ignore stupidity and stay out the way. I've only gotten into one fight over 16yrs of riding street and that was in my younger years.

    Remember the rear brake.

but also remember that every speed bump is a challenge to wheelie/jump

I am trying to get her to ride it and crash it first

Also don’t have any speed bumps in Montana.

Having so much fun with this thing. I put some Pro Taper bars on it a couple weeks ago and have just been riding the crap out of it. Wheelie practice on the daily.
