(hope this isn't too political) If there is a fundamental change, so be it. Let some companies crumble. Let Boeing eat it, let's find out what happens. Nobody is too big to fail. Maybe a fundamental change will be for the good.

I agree. When I hear about all of the buybacks done over the recent years, and then those same companies needing to be bailed out, it's ridiculous. I agree, let companies fail, hopefully they'll be replaced by better, smarter companies.

Would be interesting, albeit probably detrimental to a lot of people's lives and welbeing, to see BA and LMT take a dive. From my perspective working for an aerospace manufacturer at least.

I am never rooting for personal problems for anyone (that should go without saying). Just looking at market mechanisms, and these companies could have done things differently, but didn't when things were going great.

At first I was all for no bailouts, but I saw some articles on how not bailing them out would result in many pensions tanking even worse than currently, more unemployment spending, etc. I think the bail out might actually be the most efficient way for the government to use the money since theyll be paid back plus interest

oh it probably is but there should be some conditions that means this isn’t a freebie. But then again the same people said the same stuff in 08. Ah well.

I hope they do the bailout that is more like a loan rather than cash. And make sure that the airlines cant do stock buybacks until they have repaid the loan plus interest.

These companies remind me of people who live way beyond their means, and then something like this happens, and they're screwed. I would prefer that companies are run like people who live below their means, and are prepared for something like this.

The excessive buybacks is like me buying a Ferrari during good times, then asking for help making the payment when I lose my job. It makes no sense to run a company like that.

Like taking a maximum cash out refi on your house to buy a Ferrari, but not enough money in your checking account in case you cant work for a 2 weeks.
And your boss will give you a bonus for doing it

Unfortunately the airlines ran like that for the past few years due to ceo's being greedy and getting paid in stock compensation rather than just a set salary. More buy backs with excess cash the higher the stock went so more incentive to keep doing it. I bet DAL is regretting giving out that billion dollars in bonuses to employees beginning of the year with that excess cash.

In reality I really want the airline bailout since me and the wife picked the 2 worst industries to work in: airlines and oil. US shale is a dumpster fire so hopefully US aviation wont do the same.

Also in relation to ceo's being greedy read an article last night about British Airways ceo not taking a pay cut like 95% of other airline higher ups. All while issuing a 50% paycut to all BA pilots, what a cheap bastard lol

Yeah my wife is a yoga instructor and I work in aerospace. o_O US Aviation won't be as bad as shale. that's the whole point of the RUS/SA price war - drive crude so cheap that alternate options like shale, oil sands, etc are worthless and can't operate for a year, shut down all operations, and then bring the price of crude back up. It's the long con.

Some are too critical to national security to fail. Boeing is one of them.

    no they aren’t.

Other air framers will pick up their contracts and all repairs are in standardized engine manuals that would get sold off to the MROs. Boeing is not too important to fall.
