Got the ECG rear dif installed, way easy. Best upgrade hands down. 5.29s make a huge drivability improvement. I think I would go with them with stock tires on the AT.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
5.29s are a beast son! Been putting my truck thru some shit recently, feels like I got the smaller brutha of the TacoBox with me.
I was creeping down some crazy ass declines in about 9” of snow, pushing big rocks down an old Jeep ridge trail.
Terrain was wickedly unstable not mention the drop offs (pops had a couple pucker moments).

Truly the best mod for this little beast.
Thanks to all for the info!

Hello, I recently just had nitro 5.29 gears installed. When I am turning, the truck slows down dramatically. I can feel that the two rear wheels are engaged. Has anyone had this issue or is this normal?

Well it’s the new prototype stuff. But essentially yes. The magnetic stuff is in much larger pieces. This is more of a window cling style material, only thicker.

My only issue with this stuff is my buddies truck gets dirt around the edges and it has lightly buffed/sanded a fine line around the contour of the armor. Specifically the top edge.
Have you seen this happen at all?
I like the idea. makes a lot of sense to me on the trail.

Front done this weekend. Took Bro and I about 6 working hours. This is not that difficult, but two man job for sure. Two tips:
    1. Big brass punch to tap axles out of third member. There are flats on the inboard CV housings. Same going in. One pulls or pushes on axle and one hammers.
    2. Removing side gear from third member. Us long screwdriver from drivers side and pop the end of the shaft. You can just get in next to the spider gear cross shaft. This is done when you are transfer the passenger side extension tube on to the new third member.

The new stuff won’t have this issue. It’s like window cling. You just pull it off and clean and reinstall. There isn’t any “pressure” like the magnets. So no reason for the dirt to be abrasive. But I’ve only had it for like 2 weeks now.

Although. If you don’t have common sense, it’ll be harder to install lol

Flashed the 5.29 tune from @OVTune and its pretty solid! Speed limiter gone, shift points seem pretty solid. Still have a lot of testing to do but so far very happy.

As far as anyone following along with my diff locker indicator issue. They are pulling open the diff again this week to quadruple check everything. Nitro thinks the bearings need to be seated better but the shop says they have had the diff out several times and everything is installed perfectly (and I believe them).

If everything is installed correctly they are going to machine enough off the position sensor to put the clearance back to where it was with the stock gears.

Just had 5.29's put in my 2017. At about 350 miles and getting a pretty good "whine" on deceleration or when off the gas. Much more prevalent at higher speeds. Drives smooth, no vibration or grinding sounds at all. Get on the gas and its gone. Tried scanning through the 121 pages in this thread, but didn't see anything regarding this. Read some other info saying aftermarket gears can be noisier then OEM(?)

Oh. I forgot to update here. 5.29’s in. Got... hmm. 120/30 miles on it. At first it was kinda rough cause cause I flashed the new 5.29 OVTune, but now it’s settling nicely. It’s so awesome to be able to push the pedal and go. Very nice upgrade and definitely worth the money.

I to have slight “airplane whine” on decel but I’m not worried. My shop said they would warranty anything or any issues. (They good people) pretty excited to be able to mash the gas pedal down and see how she really drives here in about 2-3 more heat and cool cycles.
