I would venture to guess that if he had the screw that fell out, he wouldn't have started a rant about having to buy a new one.

So what you're saying... is "yes" they are "designed" to stay in place. I've yet to find a bolt or screw that was "designed" to not stay in place.

I have met Jason, he doesn't seem like the kind of guy to remove bolts and try to get them warrantied. Unless, maybe he's running some dark underground bolt Ponzi scheme.

Totally agree, they should replace it at no cost. It costs them practically nothing and they'd make a customer for life. But they couldn't warranty it. The point I'm trying to make is you can't warranty a missing part. You couldn't come in without one headlight and say "it fell out" and get it replaced under warranty.

Gotta tighten down those loose butts... otherwise they'll make a mess.

So let me get this straight, you sign papers on a new truck, pull out of the dealership and the transmission falls the fuck out on the way home, but you fail to pick up the bell housing bolts off the 8 lane interstate in rush hour traffic.. you're denied warranty due to a lack of evidence.? LMAO

Yep. Threads generally mate and it doesn't take much force for their size to keep them there.

I'm not suggesting anything nefarious about the OP. Just weird that there are no witness marks in other spots. I would believe that the screw can't fall out with the door closed?

That scenario makes no sense. If that happened there would be obvious damage to the vehicle. And even then, you would have to prove you didn't hit something in the road to cause the failure.

Pfft. Go and remove a random part from your truck, drive it to Toyota and tell them you'd like a replacement under warranty because it's missing. Tell me how it goes.

Had it happen with a fog light on my Mustang @ 7K miles. Dealership fixed my power seat and replaced the MIA fog light, now get this, "UNDER WARRANTY" with no questions asked. Wasn't much too it, but an afternoon at the dealer.

There cranking these trucks out as fast as they can make em. They probably overlooked it at the factory and it never got installed, especially if there aren't any marks around the sensor or paint .

The dealer you bought the truck from may pay out of pocket for it, I'm a ford tech and every quarter ford corp gives us like $2000 for goodwill warranty, aka good customer has something not warrantyable but we feel bad for them, I would assume Toyota is similar but it's entirely up to the dealers discretion. Helps if you are a regular customer who doesn't get all pissed and rude when the dealer makes recommendations.
Asking sales to deal with it would be the best way of getting a cheap part like that though.

Take it to another dealer and tell them it was never there when you bought it. This will turn into warranty.
