I believe it is 1000lbs for a third gen without trailer brakes.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
Individual states have legal requirements for brakes on trailer. Most are 1000lbs, but some 2 or 3000lbs..

Only 3or4 states don't have a requirement linked to weight. And you want to know because you can't guarantee le will know the requirements. It's not something they generally deal with all the time.

I got stopped once towing my hf flatbed with a 4 wheeler, he asked why I didn't have brakes on it. I replied "it has an unladen weight less than 1500 pounds",

He asked "what state are you claiming exemption from?"

    "This one..."

I'm guessing he had written that ticket before and the people written didn't know they were in fact totally fine. I was also le at the time, I just knew what he didn't. There's a LOT of laws on the books.

It's a thing :). I had more than 1 conversation with people I worked with regarding various laws people cited for to explain why they are using certain laws wrongly. If they're fto did it wrong, odds are they are too. Always research the exact statute or ordinance you're written on if you get a ticket.
